No, I should have just clicked on that thread. Hmm. There's a bunch of good stuff in there. You'd think after more than a year of FT and almost 3K posts Id've found my way around.

I was there around the same time, coming in from ORD, and visited with two different FTers. Didn't see AA_EXP09, though, and headed to my hotel to get some needed sleep after about a 30 min visit.

What does Do stand for?

I have always been told "Do doesn't stand for anything". However, in reading last Sunday's NT Times I discovered that "Do" is a Britishism for a shindig - interesting.

"Doesn't stand for anything" is not the same as "doesn't MEAN anything"

DO (in this context) is not a set of initials.. so it does not "stand" for a phrase..

"DO" in this part of the world means a get together.. (or yes, a shindig)

The bigger issue is after a Do is over, is it a Done, or is it a Did?

I think that varies with cultural background! (It could even be a "done did"!)

This is the story I heard...

Meaning of DO

Maybe a silly question, but I looked through many posts and I do not know what exactly the term "DO" means. Is it just "do", like a "FlyerTalk does ATL", or what?

"DO" is a British term for a party or social event. I don't know why flyertalk always uses this term, but I've gotten used to it and consider it a normal word now.

According to the FT glossary "DO" is: "A widely used term for large get togethers/parties/meetups. In general the term is reserved for larger gatherings of 12 of more members."

According the FT rules: "A gathering of FlyerTalk members, often referred to as a "Do," is to be posted in the CommunityBuzz Forum, but the main thread may be in a different forum and then cross referenced to CommunityBuzz. Members may not be excluded from events announced on FlyerTalk based on factors such as gender, age, number of posts or location."

DOs may range from a meal in a local restaurant to a few days of organized activities attracting members from all over the world. There are also regular DOs (usually meals) in several locations round the world. Take a look at the Consolidated Do List Thread which has links to the past DOs as well as upcoming DOs to find what FT DOs are like and how they are organized. I personally believe planning, announcing, discussing and reporting of DOs is what the CommunityBuzz forum is for rather than just a place for announcing gatherings/meetups.
