It takes about two hours with no traffic interruptions to drive from the airport to Newcastle CBD. I travel this route frequently. I use the Eastern Distributor, Harbour Tunnel, Lane Cove Tunnel and M2 up to Beecroft, join Penannt Hills Rd and then onto the M1. The train is very slow and painful. I would definitely hire a car and drive.
I avoid the Pacific Highway at all costs.

Hi everyone.
For those who may be worried there is actually action occurring behind the scenes.
Details will start to appear over the next week as soon as a few things are confirmed.
Thanks for your patience.

I have made a flight booking which might make visiting Newcastle possible, its an award for the flight home.
Visiting Newcastle for lunch is ok right.
Please list me as interested, silver for now and about 2 weeks out I know whether I can lock in the flight to Newcastle or whether the award will be cancelled.
Of course this little thing called work gets in the way.

I'm booked
Please add me as Platinum Confirmed. I've booked the flights. After having a great time at OzFest 12 in New Zealand, I look forward to joining the group once again.

Friday night casual dinner
Saturday event
Saturday night smart casual dinner (I hesitate to use the word formal)
Sunday event
Sunday night a very casual dinner.
People come and go when ever suits them. Some stay for everything and others visit for a short time only. (I think the record was in Hobart when someone dropped in for about an hour)

Please list me as Gold. I've counted vacation days and - think - I'll have enough to be able to make this. I'm unlikely to be able to finalize until mid- to late-April, though.
