I just cannot justify spending ~AUD220/night or 35,000 IHG points/night.
Well it was only 30,000 IHG points a night when I booked last October. Fortunately IHG has lots of bonus point promotions.

Yes they do and I have lots of IHG points but I still cannot justify spending 105,000 IHG points for 3 nights in Newcastle when I can use the same points for 10+ nights in Chiang Mai and that is a really nice Holiday Inn. They upgrade me to a suite each time. Wish they would throw in Executive Lounge access as well. Some of the best views in Chiang Mai.

See this post for hotel recommendations. As of now, the Crowne Plaza is 30,000 IHG points per night.

I agree, the Chiang Mai Holiday Inn is a great hotel. Lovely views of the Ping River and mountains from the higher floors. Rooms are available for 1330 THB (includes taxes) = 38.43 USD, or 10,000 IHG points. Unfortunately prices for hotels (and most other things) are much higher in Australia than Thailand.

I'll be away overseas from 25th May. Darn. Just thought about going to this. It would be fun hosting lots of Americans in our fabulous country.

And I, for one, would have looked forward to meeting you too! But don't despair. It's an annual event. You can read about its history in post 7 of this thread. There's always 2018!

Don't go too far from Sydney next year. It's so hard for me to get away.

I must read here more often.

I've only been to Newcastle once when I departed on a cruise ship from there.

50 days to go.
For those 14 who have signed up as Gold & 4 who have signed up as Silver time to start thinking about coming.
For those Aussies in MEL & BNE just a direct flight away to NTL

From your profile you are in Australia, so not too hard to get to Newcastle.

Looking forward to the program being posted. I assume there won't be much on during Friday day?

I'll be investigation the pros and cons of a $3.80 train trip Mascot to Newcastle in the afternoon.

That reminds me, I've gotta get an "Opal" card ...
