KY Bourbon Trail expected to have over 1,000,000 visitors in 2016. It says the average visitor spends on the order of $1000 on his/her visit to KY.
Wow, big business.

I still haven't been to Woodford Reserve which is near Lexington. Also Wild Turkey as well as Four Roses are w/in striking distance as well. (I'd prefer Four Roses over Wild Turkey).
At this point I'm overnighting in Cincinnati on Friday night and will drive down on Sat morning.

I'd be up for a distillery tour (or two) on Sat morning.

Woodford Reserve: Stand Back, that is a hot cauldron and dangerous..
Buffalo Trace: I wish Bubba (actual name) was a member of my family.. Sadly no tour except a barrel and labeling room. But made up for it with the generous pours and Burbon Balls ..

I'm going to do the special hard hat tour at Buffalo Trace this time.
Woodford Reserve is a victim of its own success. The setting is still cool and the bourbon is still good but the distilery tour feels superficial, corporate and like a mere tourist attraction compared to what it was the first time I went 5+ years ago.

Wild Turkey was somewhat interesting, start off at a shack like tasting room gift shop, take a shuttle to the big corporate facility, rather interesting, then back on the shuttle to the barrel room (next to a really cool bridge) then back to the shack tasting room for 3 or 4 samples. I actually like it and those mash tank were gigantic..

Actually that was my opinion before going there based on the normai base burbon that's distributed nationwide. However, there were a few that I actually liked Tastes are subjective.. Especially Burbon, I could summize that is like 31 Flavors, every one has a certain pallate.. You may like vanilla, and I butter pecan. However, we both leave the shop with smiles
