15/01 3K687 SIN-KUL (Qantas Lounge guest 1)
18/01 MH754 KUL-PNH [Malaysia Airlines F Lounge guest 1 (Spot withheld) ]
20/01 MH755 PNH-KUL (PNH airport lounge guest 1)
20/01 MH613 KUL-SIN (Malaysia Airlines F Lounge guest 1)
Change of plans: Im not going to Sihanoukville anymore, and cutting short my trip to the 18th.

So in that case I'm only going to fly:
15/01 MH610 SIN-KUL (Qantas/BA/CX Lounge guest 1)
Return trip is by personal car.

Accommodation is booked at the Shangri-La instead of the Grand Hyatt in consideration of recent safety related warnings.

Are the other organizers still planning to attend the Post-Do? Any word on what we'll actually be doing in Sihanoukville?

I'm also curious about what the safety issues are at the Hyatt in K.L.

Not the hyatt per se, but more of the general area is what I'm afraid of.

It's up to each individual to determine such terrorism risks, although if it is something known and it's serious enough, there would be official and specific warnings from the US and/or other allied countries. There was indeed a specific warning on specific locations within KUL not long ago, but there has been nothing specific about the city since then.

I read the article.... and don't get any sort of feeling that it speaks specifically of the area in, around, or near the Grand Hyatt in KL. What, in your opinion, points to that?

My reference was for KUL in general, and not in relation to the the specific area where the Grand Hyatt is in. It is also a past warning, and nothing eventuated from that as well. If anything, the GH and Shangri-La are only half a mile apart.

I should also clarify and stress that there is currently NO official travel alerts or warnings for KUL from the UK, US, or Australia. Personally speaking, I do not feel the need to reconsider travel to any parts of KUL due to safety/terrorism/whats-nots.

While I've never planned to be at the Grand Hyatt, I'll just be a few hundred yards away in the direction of the shopping malls and do not feel unsafe with the currently available information.

You probably could have just said that you wanted points / redeemed points / got a great deal at the Shangri-La, rather than saying it was because of security concerns that you weren't staying at the Hyatt (on the basis of the security advisory that's about all of Malaysia and not the Hyatt itself). Wouldn't have freaked out as many people.

Me too. I just booked it with Avios. I won't have access to the MH lounge, unless someone with access lets me be their guest. There is a priority pass lounge I can use though.

I booked the Mary Beach Hotel and Resort in Sihanoukville. It is right next to the Tamu hotel, but quite a bit cheaper. I may change this depending on what others are doing.

I'm probably going to spend a couple of days in Phnom Penh after the Post DO. Siem Reap will be fun for those going there, but I've been there recently and don't want to go back so soon.
