DUT airport transfer

Greetings to all, looking forward to AK and the Do.

Am at DFW now and will fly up this evening to ANC.
I was talking to the Grand Aleutian as I am first to arrive there, and they said they have a courtesy phone at the terminal. So they just said to call them when I arrive and they will send the van up to collect me. So I assume with the rental cars and the hotels shuttle, there should be no problems with airport transfers. Happy travels . John.

Fast food shops in Dutch? Must have missed those

But if they did exist, I'd imagine even they'd take Mastercard and Visa too, like most every other place around.

Over the last two trips there, I think the only place I couldn't use a credit card was at a community festival for some hot dogs and cupcakes that the local high school kids were selling.

I'm not sure if taxis do or don't require cash these days though; it's been years since I took one there.

If you do need to obtain more cash on the island, there's an ATM at Key Bank. And standalone ATMs in the Grand Aleutian, Alaska Ship Supply, Safeway and a bunch of other places.

Weather looks to be nice throughout the week with mostly sunny days and highs into the mid-60's. let's hope the forecasters are right and the BBQ goes off without a hitch. Although I have no idea what the menu will be?

There WAS a meeting of the group where this was mostly decided.......

Not having been there does not preclude my making the observation that nobody in the group ever put down his wine glass in order to pick up a pen to make some notes.

Many notes were taken and promptly forgotten as the night progressed

I will be picking JohnSydney2000 up tomorrow at 11:30 and then we will meet GrjApp later in the afternoon for a visit to the excellent and very worthwhile Alaska Native Heritage Center.

If anyone else is in town and would like to join, please PM me ASAP. Transportation for Sunday and Monday has also gotten much cheaper--as in, not much more than just the cost in fuel--as I am able to use a regular car instead of a more expensive van. That does mean there is a cap of 3 participants, though, although if we do get more interest, there may be some alternatives to fit more people.

That should definitely be the focus of the next FT DO in Alaska. We have never been out there and will need to go to the Aleutians and/or to Kodiak the next time up.
So how come you guys aren't coming out to DUT?

Because the DO was scheduled for the turn of the month which is usually the only period in which it is time sensitive for us to be in the office. It is very difficult for us not to be at one or the other of them on the first two days of every month.

We seldom miss a chance to come to Alaska but this time are coming on the third, the first comfortable day that we can. This time, we tried lots of alternatives but could make nothing work for us arriving ANC on the first or second nor on the third in time to get to DUT.

I'll be landing in ANC around lunchtime and then heading over to the Sheraton. If anybody is around and wants to catch up, shoot me a PM. Will likely be around downtown for most of the afternoon.

We already messaged but posting here as well.
My shuttle from Denali gets back to Anchorage around 630 I believe. Dinner will be my primary mission since I'm not sure if I will get a chance to eat real food until then

The DO is officially on!

(We are working hard to prepare our private charter flight to Dutch.)

In addition to the aforementioned (free!) Alaska State Trooper museum, the folks who joined me yesterday can attest that the Alaska Native Heritage Center is a truly fascinating experience that one could easily spend all day at. If you don't have a rental car, they do offer a free shuttle from downtown (with a stop at the Sheraton). The Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center also offers an excellent look at Alaska's culture and history--everything from ancient aboriginal to modern petroleum. Well worth a stop.

Otherwise, post #2 in this thread has many suggestions you can cull a list from: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/alask...anchorage.html

Day One orientation was great

Morning,
I want to thank Jackal for a great first day tour to open the Do.
We had a lovely rush through the Alaska Aviation Museum near the airfield. We were able to look inside our aircraft, still being re-furbished prior to out flight to DUT tomorrow. Then I saw the floatplane airport, active taxiways shared with streets, and yes, we had to give way to aircraft. Got to hang out in the top of the old ANC control tower for a while.
Next, great coffee, then out to the suburbs ( and a tiny glimpse at part of the jackal reality tour to be conducted later in the week - can't wait).
Then up to a very popular lookout in Chugach Park. Spectacular views over Anchorage and it was clear enough to see Denali in the distance.
Then as Jackal said, a very interesting visit to the Native Heritage Center.
Then a look at more aircraft, this time Merrill field.
Thanks again, great first day of the Do for me. John.

Discovered the same issues, so I figured I would stop by the PenAir counter to get my BP. They don't do BPs except for same day travel..

On the upside, the agent said we wouldn't have to deal with TSA.
