I'm in! Fares finally dropped enough for me to commit. Flying into SJC late on the 23rd and may just stay there for the night. Have a placeholder res at the HGI for Fri/Sat. On the fence about the aquarium, will decide later.

Planning is slow-going at the moment, BUT this DO is definitely on.

Since there isn't high interest in the aquarium, it will NOT be an official part of our weekend. I believe I will still have access to a couple guest passes, so if a few of you do want to squeeze it in somewhere, the out-of-pocket cost can be averaged out among you.

Alrighty, thanks again for your patience. My goal is to have everything set by August 28.

FYI, BOS/NYC-SJC fares on US are $205-$210ish depending on dates! See the Flight Deal:

Put me down as interested – I just moved to Oakland, and don’t have a car, so as things get closer I’d love to connect with someone who is driving down from OAK, SFO or SJC - otherwise I’ll take Amtrak.

I live in Oakland as well. If everything goes as planned I may be able to give you a ride. Let's sync up closer to the date of the event.

If anyone can do Fri-Mon EWR-SFO, check out US for $252 all-in. http://www.theflightdeal.com/2014/08...ing-all-taxes/

Hey boxo - I'd like to join you guys as well. I'm local here in Monterey, so will probably just join for a dinner or something. Boxo, please PM me if you need a hand setting anything up or have questions about Monterey.

great update, thanks. note that if you park on the highway, you can walk into Point Lobos for free

has anyone made a tee time somewhere for golf? seems like at least making a placeholder for a foursome is a good idea. Pacific Grove Golf Links and Del Monte are two options that are reasonable in price and relatively nice courses. I have heard good things about the renovation at Poppy Hills but have not played it since.

note i'm still completely up in the air on this as i try to find various ways to weasel out of my business trip to Asia.

We are hoping to get away with not renting a car. I've heard the public transit is fairly good, but will it head out to the locations that are out of town? Or will it be possible to car pool?

central Monterey, cannery row, and Pacific Grove are well served by the buses. getting beyond downtown Carmel on public transit is hard. taxis are fairly abundant, and distances are short, so costs split several ways are low.

if we end up going, we'll have room for a couple of people in our car, but we won't be following the whole DO agenda the entire time.

Well, yes, but Pt. Lobos is pretty big, and it's worth driving in so that you can stop various places, get out, and explore on foot. Exploring ONLY on foot, without a car, could end up being both time-consuming and exhausting.
