it is possible to get here from DTW w/o a car --- I've been using Ann Arbor Custom Transits service (I normally park off airport and w/ 12 inches of snow on the ground....)
Also, you can get around town with AATA buses and they run special routes to the Art Fair.

Y'all don't forget that last year there was a Pointsbreak that weekend at a HIX (I think) near DTW. Keep an eye out.
