Thanks for the confirmation. I'll fly to AKL and then will have to see how to get to the Bay of islands. My RTW will be 28800 miles so a separate ticket will be needed. But I will be interested in whatever arrangements suits the majority.

Good to hear.

I believe the plan is to look at some kind of coach etc to take attendees the few hours from AKL, to Bay Of Islands. More details to be rolled out, as they finalise, re times and nominal cost.

A new thread will appear in the near future, and will be linked from here.

i.e. as we did in the Red Centre this year between Ayers Rock and Uluru ... and this is a far shorter road trip actually.

My hunch is this occur Friday early afternoon am, so for anyone booking flights to AKL, if you plan to be there by midday Friday it should be ideal for the Friday night "Welcome" dinner in Paihia. (i.e. those going to South Island beforehand etc might be able to juggle that idea in.) @:-)

Also the less persons on a bus the higher the head cost for those on them. Makes a big difference.

i.e. if a bus costs $1000 flat say, with 15 pax, each pays $66.60 – with 30 pax each pays $33.33 etc

Internal fares to places like Keri Keri are often terrifying, (and that is not Paihia anyway) and for a couple hours drive, that is part of the OzFest experience.

Glen

The earliest flight arrival into Akl from Syd on the Fri is the EK flight at 1300, followed by the 1440 QF flight, so hoping that the coach will be mid pm from Akl airport to Bay of Islands

EK SYD-AKL currently arrives 2pm.

Note there are lots of international arrivals at AKL around the same time so it can take a while to clear immigration and customs even if have carry on only.

The drive is about 3.5 hours, but could be longer if hit rush hour traffic in Auckland. That suggests a late dinner, or alternatively fly into Auckland the previous day.

Thanks OZ Stamps. I'll likely end up in AKL on the 21st, so reserve a seat for me in the bus--I think the bus trip will encourage bonding between FTers!!!

Exactly, that is why we suggest as many as possible work on the group bus option!

As Will just posted -- we are off and running for the 2015 OzFest #12 thread here - Bay Of Islands, New Zealand
