Gotcha.

A Ski Resort in Winter.

Well there's a creative and novel idea for us.

Let's see, airfares and hotels treble the usual rates .. . great suggestion!

at the bottom of this page is a tiny little "Airport Code Lookup" link which comes in handy too.

Well, rates are actually very reasonable at both of the ZQN properties according to the Hilton website:

May 21, 22, 23 & 24
Kawarau Hotel from $126NZD (most expensive room $184)
Resort & Spa from $186NZD (most expensive - room $333, residence 1 bed $236, 2 bed $333 and Suite/Relaxation Room $441)

Given the NZ peso is weak against the AUD & USD, the current range is from (rounded up):
AUD - $117 to $409
USD - $110 to $385

(using NZD$126 and $441 as benchmarks)

Now, it's true, I don't know many here that will pay for a Suite as those prices...

Queenstown is more a summer resort town now. New Years eve is a big party time and Easter is packed 110%. Every 2nd easter is Warbirds over Wanaka 120km far away

However late May the weather would be "refreshing"

Some variation of this would be appealing to us, unless NZ is to become a regular feature in the OzFest rotations. Seeing two cities in one trip would be good for us 1st time visitors.

Well if an Alaskan sees Queenstown average temps as 'refreshing' .....................

We were DARN lucky with Hobart at start of Winter, and that was only getting close to 'refreshing', and that's as close as I'd ever be happy to gamble on.

Well i'm already committed to OZ fest 2015, cant wait for destination to be listed. I have already booked award tickets including F on QF A380 on the way over using AS miles and J on NZ 787-9 using UA miles. Still 5K miles short to add on the Asia-USA flights but wante dto grab what was available to the TPAC gateway. Just hope 787-9 doesnt have as many isues as 787-8 or its back to the drawing board (i know mercury retrograde so i'm probably screwed)

Departing JFK on May 12th
Stop-over in MEL (stop-over days still in air) then headed to CNS for the things i didint have time to do this year

Returning evening of May 26th out of AKL via PEK
