Was great to meet you both and enjoy a nice Aussie meal. The lack of Tim Tams was truly devastating however the traditional Aussie shots on the house were a very welcome surprise!

We are planning to celebrate the cuisine and wine of Austria on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Edi and the Wolf in the East Village at 7:30pm

Also, I've added a map to the first post. In the future this may help break gridlock over restaurant decisions, as part of the mission is to explore new corners of the city.

Just stumbled on this thread and really like the idea. I may join in on some of these! Unfortunately will be traveling on the 9th.

So far, our Armenian meal at Sevan was the only thing remotely close to JFK - and even that is a 15-20 minute cab ride without traffic. See map here. As we learned the hard way, this place is only open after 5pm.

Edit: If traffic cooperates, I suppose Boca Juniors (Argentina) is about the same distance from JFK. Map

Off topic notice:

JFK is bordered by some middle-class Queens neighborhoods. If you want to stretch your legs and leave the airport for a nice meal, take the Airtrain to Lefferts Blvd and walk up Lefferts for about ten minutes to Don Peppe's where you will find a good authentic neighborhood Italian restaurant that will take care of your hunger for the rest of your trip.

We are now confirmed for Edi and the Wolf on Saturday at 7:30pm.

The reservation is currently for 8 people. One of those spots belongs to jackal unless I hear otherwise, and 2 seats remain open if anyone else would like to join us.

Corkage is available for $35.

I for one am not thinking of bringing anything. Their wine list is not very deep but it has a representative sampling of Austrian wines other than the Rieslings, of which it has very little.

I'm sure that I'll find something that I like. ^

Now that I'm finally home, seated in front of a real computer with real screens, and having a chance to actually review stuff, I notice it appears I've double-booked myself. I'm scheduled to be in DC this Friday night.

Although it is not inconceivable that I could hop in the car Saturday morning and make the 3-hour, 57-minute drive up to NYC (or, more likely, park at Metropark and ride the rest of the way in), I'm hesitant to over-commit myself.

So, unless I hear some very strong encouragement from some of you in the group here , I'm afraid I'll have to reluctantly take a rain check. I am now subscribed to this thread, though, so I definitely look forward to joining on future international flavor excursions!
