I have already blocked this weekend in my diary so kpc (my 7th Oz Fest) and kpc+1 will be there. Probably will drive as opposed to flying Syd-Per-Cbr as suggested previously by perthite

PS: it is time Mwenenzi makes an appearance at Oz Fest...it has been too long betwen drinks!

Please put me down as definite (barring any catastrophes) and I look forward to visiting Canberra for the first time, with FT friends.

I am very fortunate that it's an easy trip for me with daily flights from CHC to both SYD and MEL and an easy drive or flight from either to CBR.

Many thanks to the organisers who have already put in a good amount of phone time!

I hope to be at this do a few more hours than I did in DRW, which should be made easier as it's a magnitude more connected to BNE via flights (and affordable ones at that, provided the pollies don't gobble up all the fares). So put me down as one level below definite - I think that is "probable".

Quick notes to our international guests:
  • Canberra, the location of Oz Fest #9, is the capital of Australia. Not Sydney, and not Melbourne.
  • Unlike some other capitals of the world, Canberra is not a large city close to rivaling most of the nation's major population centres, with a population of a mere 360,000 freaks err, I mean, people.
  • You can thank a squabble between Sydney and Melbourne as to why Canberra exists, and an American architect for its planned design.
  • There are no Hiltons in Canberra. There is a Crowne Plaza, a Hyatt and a Novotel. A boutique hotel in town called the Diamant is rather nice, but it isn't a major international chain hotel.
  • Canberra taxis normally shuttle politicians around. Hence the prices.
  • The people who seem to scramble on an aircraft going to or from Canberra only mere seconds before the doors close more than likely work for the gummiment. They also seem to hog all the good seats and forward rows, most of the time.
  • Canberra International Airport... isn't.
  • It takes 3 hours to drive between Sydney and Canberra (excluding the time required to break out of or into Sydney metropolitan due to the traffic).

That all said and done, I'm looking forward to hopefully catching up with our international Oz Fest guests of rookie and veteran in Canberra.

Since I missed this year, I guess I can't disappoint you all again next year. Platinum it is.

trooper,

That's really poor planning.

Oz Fest is the same weekend every year.

Hmmmm, is AFAIK a disclaimer of some type?

Nonetheless, you may have to remove that 'claim to fame' from your promotional page. :P

The SIN DO has been running longer than Oz Fest . ======================>I know you know, since I remember you attending one, IIRC.
That is why the third word 'near' was added.

Oz-fests have become part of the annual travel ritual, so, unsurprisingly,
I plan to attend and look forward to see you all in CBR.

We are still upset that we missed Darwin but have vowed not to miss this one.

I request that ozstamps put us into the platinum column and we are looking forward to seeing all of our friends down there next May.
