Thank you, kpc, for this timely advice. I rarely visit the Intercontinental Hotels forum, and was unaware of this coming change. I had previously booked the CP Canberra May 25 & 26, and have now added May 27 at 25K PC points (actually 15K points + $60).

The AAA rate for the CP is AUD 261 which, while not cheap, is still better than AUD 315. That is cancellable up to 6 p.m. local time.

You can add me to the list as staying there.

I still need to figure out my SYD-CBR flight on Sat the 26th. I'm assuming that it is best to leave more cushion (4 hours?) for: 1) flight delays and 2) going through immigration and customs and then standby for something earlier if all goes smoothly.

I gave myself a three hour buffer from UA>QF. Land at 6:15am from LAX, and depart for CBR at 9:15am on Friday.

For those looking for hotels there are a range of good options within walking distance of the city centre which are cheaper than the CP. The Novotel is showing at $153, the Mercure (formerly Olim's, 15 minutes walk) is $126, Rydges Lakeside is $129 and the Diamant Hotel (one of the best in CBR) is $220 with a suite available for $315 (less than CP).

While I realise that we are all attached to our points, I would encourage you to look at your options with some other hotels with the Diamant being an excellent option.

If you look at past Oz Fest's there have been informal semi organized lunches on the Friday & sometimes on the Thursday evening. Some people start to arrive on Thursday. Most are gone by Monday evening. For CBR expect many will arrive in CBR Sat morning from SYD MEL.

Many thanks.

If anyone that knows me wants to PM me their loose plans that would be much appreciated.

It is perhaps worth noting that the reward nights, did, in fact, increase to 35,000 points. THey should still be available for 25,000 through the service centre.

Please mark me down as Platinum.

Flights have been booked. Arriving Friday afternoon BNE-SYD-CBR and departing Sunday evening CBR-BNE.

Now to look for some cheap motel accommodation, possibly in Queanbeyan....
