Does anyone have experience or knowledge of this?
I checked Citi for pre approved offers in preparation for applying for a new Citi AA plat, as my last one was converted from W to WE after opening. I had no pre-approved offers, none at all for Citi, so was concerned about applying. But on reflection, I recall that years ago, late 1990s, I had opted out with the 3 main credit bureaus from pre-approved offers.
Would the mechanism Citi would use for checking for preapproved offers at my request be blocked as well by my opt out? The opt out does not prevent banks from checking my CR if I apply, it isn't like a freeze in that respect.

In case you are wondering, I did the opt out long before I discovered Flyertalk and after I had learned about identity theft risk from pre approved offers being stolen from one's mailbox.

My credit score is 800+ and I have only 11 pulls for 24 months on the bureau Citi pulls for me, so not sure what else would prevent my being pre approved for any Citi cards.

I got a 50k bonus on a World MC card in April 2015. it later converted to World Elite. Just this week I received a new World Elite MC to replace my very old Platinum Visa. So I've had two cards converted to World Elite in 2015. By my reading of the Wiki, that means I'm eligible to apply again for another 50k. Correct ?

This may seem like I'm asking the obvious, but I've had my eye off the ball on this new development re churning the AA cards. Haven't been following this thread too closely since I figured I was locked out of AA action for another several months. In researching it, I've found some conflicting info in other corners. I am technically on hiatus from new cards but a new lump of AA miles is always the exception to that rule.

So it won't work for the W:WE loophole?

How did you word the SM? I just received a card for 50K, and 10K more would not be a bad thing.

Miles posted for spend but not for bonus.

Data point: Applied for Citi Business. (This is the 2nd time I've had this card. First was January 2014. Since then I've churned the Exec and had a couple of Plats and a gold.) Met the spend. Statement posted on 11/27. "Miles reported to American Airlines: 53,030." But only 3,030 miles were posted to my AAdvantage account. I'll wait until the next statement to see if the 50,000 miles post without any action on my part. I assume this issue with bonus miles not showing up at the same time as the miles from putting spend on the card has happened before and has been discussed before, but it isn't in the wiki, so I thought the data point might be helpful to somebody. I'll post again when I see the miles hit my AAdvantage account.

I take it you're referring to the targeted 60K mailers.

This, and how exactly did they say the match would be implemented:
  • automatically?
  • SM them again after you hit the spend target?

60K Bonus Miles for Business?

I have read about this 60K miles offered in the last few pages here, but I could not confirm is it a personal card, or a business card.

So if I apply the business card using link (G) of the Wikipage, would I get 60K eventually after secure message them?

Thanks
Sean

If you have opted out, my understanding is that you shouldn't ever have any pre-approved offers at banks' pre-approval sites. There might be an exception for banks at which you already do business, but I'm not sure.

I, too, opted out long ago, and have never received a pre-approved offer at any of these sites. (I have a thin credit history after living abroad for years, but all of my reports are clean and I have $0 debt.) At most, I get the "you might like ..." or "we recommend ..." language.

8/65 day rule question

I had my fun with the Exec cards back when they were god's gift to us all, but have been (mostly) laying low with Citi since the end of last spring. But not long ago, I did get a new Citi Business MC. Now that it appears the word "elite" has become so important, I'm thinking about re-upping for a World (not-so-elite) MC (which I previously had, which was converted to "world elite").

My question is around the definition of the dates used with the 8/65 day rule.

I only have one new Citi card app in the past 6 months, so I'm certainly good to go on the "65" part of the equation. But I do have a new Citi biz card, so I want to be careful about the "8" part, too.

There are actually three dates associated with my new card that I've tracked in my trusty Excel sheet:

Date Applied (Nov 11)
Date Approved (Nov 17)
Date Activated (Nov 21)

My app for my recent card actually sat for almost a week before it was approved (without any intervention on my part). If the critical date is the application date (which I think it is), then today is Day 18, and I should be well in the clear (even though some of the intervening days were not banking business days).

I assume the following is true (based on wiki content and previous experience), but would like confirmation from the cognoscenti...

For the purposes of the 8/65 day rule...
1. The only day that matters is the application date (not approval date, not activation date).
2. We always and only count calendar days (not "business days", bank holidays, weekends, etc. - those don't figure in to the count - it's strictly calendar days only).

Are the two points above generally accepted as correct?

Thank you!

I believe it's based on the application date, but why not just wait one more day (or five more hours?) and not have to worry about any of it?

I will. But I figured it wouldn't be a bad thing to get crystal clear on the finer points of counting. There are times when it can make a difference.

So I'm still interested in confirmation of my two assumptions.

Should be automatically. IIRC in the past when such match is granted on the HHonors card, someone said the posting is a separate line item. I would imagine it is the same mechanism for AA card.

Remember a month or so ago sdsearch said on his AA flight the FA was handing out application forms but he missed it. That is the story you can use.

Yes I do. Please be assured, that while a pre-approved offer does indicate bonus eligibility, one can definitely be approved for, and get the bonus for another Citi AA plat after the W to WE conversion even though it doesn't appear anywhere on the pre-approved offers page.
