American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles not available if you have had a Citi Executive®/AAdvantage® World EliteTM MasterCard® opened or closed in the past 18 months.

anyone used that link and had an exec card didn't get the bonus. It was NOT a broken link, its the citi public offer for the exec card.
as far as the other links,I added these links to the wiki of the exec card and i know they work, but not all links work the same way, there are two formats of Citi exec card forms and the results will vary.

Apples and oranges...

That "existing cardmembers" language has been in the regular AA apps for a long time. And the people who say you don't need to cancel your card are also correct. The explanation is that after a varying amount of time, the Citi computers inexplicably seem to "forget" that you have a card. So at that point you are not considered an "existing cardmember" anymore, even though you still have a card open.

The situation with the EXEC card is very different. That EC language has just recently been added to some but not all of the new apps. Using apps without that language still lets you get bonus after bonus. But using apps with that language usually still allows you to get a new card, but then you get denied for the bonus after you meet the spend.

I am glad that you all have the citi rule book for all cards and you got it nailed down.
