FAQ

1. Are these cards churnable?
Yes, they are. BUT youll have to wait anywhere from 12 to 26 months before applying again. Approvals have happened at the 13 month mark and denials at 24.
There is no set 18 month rule, but always err on the side of caution when churning.
Also- its from DATE OF APPROVAL and not from date of cancellation.

2.What are the most current rules in applying for these cards?
#ONLY ONE APPLICATION in a day (make that 30 hours to be safe)
#No more than 2 apps in 65 (approximately) days.
Example:
Day 1 40K personal platinum
Day 2 or later 25-30K personal gold
65+ days later 40K business

While the day limits are a little flexible by a few days either way and YMMV, the rules themselves are not flexible.

3. How long does it take for the Admiral passes to arrive?
For the better part, it takes about 3 months. This is not a set number, and some have received theirs sooner. It's been deduced that the passes are handled by a 3rd party that mails them in batches. Please dont call Citi for the passes, because youll mostly find a CSR who doesn't know better and will give you wrong information.

4. Can I apply for a business card if I dont have a business?
Technically, you can. But you may be asked for a 4506-T form, or to provide proof of business or/and a copy of a bill with your business name on it. If you don't already have a credit history for the business name you plan to use (meaning this is your first rodeo) then it is recommended you use your name as the business name with no income and 0 as years in business.

5. How do I get the statement credit?
First, you have to make sure if the offer you signed up for gave you A $150 credit or UP TO A $150 statement credit. For the 1st, any AA coded purchase ($50 AA GC seems to be the simplest option here) will/should trigger it. For the 2nd, youll have to spend $150 to get the $150 credit.
For more information on what will work and what wont, please see here (thanks sdsearch) and here (thanks dogbyte)

6. Does the $150 account credit (for AA purchases using the VISA or AMEX) count against the spending required to receive the initial mileage bonus?
No. It does not. (Put differently: any account credit you receive has no impact on your spending total for purposes of earning the "X thousand miles for $Y spent in the first Z months" bonus.)

7. Can I buy Visa gift cards to meet my minimum spend?
Theres a very good chance that itll be coded as a cash advance.
Its recommended to call citi and have them set your Cash Advance limit to zero. (thanks KennyBSAT)

8. Do I get 10% back when redeeming miles for awards?
It depends. First, the rebate program (which began in April 2012) applies only to holders of these cards:
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage Visa Signature
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World MasterCard
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard
  • Citi Select AAdvantage American Express
It does not apply if you hold only the Citi Gold World MasterCard.

Also, the maximum rebate for any cardholder in a single calendar year is 10,000 miles. Having more than one qualifying Citi AA card will not allow you to receive a larger rebate; the restriction applies per AAdvantage account.

9. At what locations are my one day Club passes valid?
All valid locations are listed here.

Has anyone applied for the original links in this thread, to see if they are targeted or not?

50K miles, $100 credit, and a companion ticket makes a pretty good deal for a $3K spend.

I missed out on the Business card under the 75K offers. I was going to pull the trigger on this one if we can get confirmation that somebody has been successful with it.

I just applied for the business card. I didn't get an instant approval, so I'll have to update later. I got one of the personal 75K cards in May, and have a legit tiny, but established, sole proprietorship.

Lots of good info in this thread, especially the link to Million Mile Secrets - great blog. Thanks to all.

Did the double browser trick for my gf (50k x 2), she was instantly approved for both. However, I was eventually denied due to "too many recent inquiries". Within the last few weeks:

Chase Sapphire 50k: approved
US Airways 40k: approved
AMEX SPG : declined, need to call
*also financed a new car, so that was 1-2 hits

I called the Citi reconsideration line (Philippines, I'm guessing..) and responded by saying I use this cards mostly for business and will start to fly AA more for business (both true). Still a no go. Obviously I'm calling separately for both the Visa and AMEX, but I'm wondering if I should keep calling or just wait a couple of months to try again if the deal is still around?

I hear Citi is tough for reconsideration. I have no cards with Citi yet aproxx. 22K in lines at Chase....give me something, Citi!

Technically this is a targeted offer, but the 75k links were also targeted. Really wish I could have reported success with my app, but hopefully others will be successfully approved. If you apply, let us know what the companion cert looks like.

Here is a link for 50K miles with $2,500 spend in 4 months for Visa, Amex, Biz. This came from Million Mile Secrets. What a great blog.
Thanks for the link.

I applied for a personal AA card in July 2011 for the 75k. Got approved, and I just now I applied for this card using this link, but I didn't get an instant approval. I called 1-866-606-2961, and they said since I already have 5 credit cards with Citi and have reached the maximum credit limit per user, they could only approve this application with a starting limit of just $1k.

I asked to shift some of the credit from my personal accounts over, and the rep said he can't do that since the business line is separated.

But I was just happy that I got approved for a business card without having to provide any additional information about my sole proprietorship.

You applied for Business card only and didn't try personal, right?

Wow, you're doing well. I have just one Citi CC (Amex) and they refused a second card (since Amex isn't accepted everywhere, I applied for a Visa) saying I was no longer a first-time applicant. Technically true but certainly does not comport with many others' experience around here! My credit rating hovers around 800 and I have no debt.

Worse, it's turning out to be a colossal struggle to get the miles I was promised. First, I'm supposed to get double miles for AA flight purchases--nope, nothing. I ordered stuff I didn't need from Nordstrom's just for fun since they were offering 10mi/$ and the stuff arrived quickly but no miles. I contacted Nordstroms and they said they'd investigate but nothing came of it. Sure, I can keep pursuing it but the cost per mile is adding up since time isn't free.

Meanwhile, I achieved the $2500 required spend for the 50K bonus on this card seven weeks ago and have yet to see any sign that the miles might be forthcoming. The fine print does read '8 to 10 weeks' on that so who knows. But I was also supposed to get two Admirals Club passes and never did.

In fact, all I've gotten on this AA card in nearly three months is the normal one mile per dollar charged. Exception: Overstock.com did come through with the mileage bonus they promised, almost instantly, and kept me apprised by email of the progress ^

Now I'm contemplating a $31K charge for a cruise and would love to get a mileage bonus from someone for it. I previously had a Chase Visa so that's out.

If any of you mileage mavens can tell me what I'm doing wrong, or point me to a productive source of help at AA, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that it was a Business card that I applied for. I didn't try Personal because I already got approved for a personal Visa during the 75k drive. So I was afraid that I would get denied for another personal card.

$2,500 spending requirement within 4 months isn't too bad though.

Marsen, I was also denied of a second personal card back in July, even though I applied for both the Visa and Amex on the same day, within a few hours of each application however.

Thanks for responding. But you have (or had) six cards in all, right? That's way ahead of me! They'll only let me have the one. And the bigger problem is getting miles credited. I've stopped using the card--what's the point, if they're not going to credit the miles I've earned?

Who knows, maybe they will in a couple more months, but imho the business model is faulty. Crediting the miles properly would be a more powerful impetus toward continued use of the card on the part of customers. Then Citibank would make more money.

I don't discount or dismiss the successful reports from many other contributors here, but I will say that mileage varies

I've got 4 cards here, but the 4th was difficult to get with me having to move around credit lines from the Amex/visa to the world elite.

I decided to give the VISA a go from the page 1 link. It seemed like a good deal so I will post back with how the process evolves.

I have not obtained (or applied) for any Citi cards in the past. I wish I had gone for the BA 100k deal, but that is another issue.

I'm extremely interested in your outcome. I want my gf to sign up for these cards if possible.

13 months, and got a new personal card.

Did the 50K + 2 AC passes Visa for $2500 spend link

Also applied for the CitiBusiness from same landing page, since that's the one I expected to get (as there doesn't seem to be the 'first time AAdvantage card members only issue' with it)

Well, CitiBusiness is still pending, personal Visa got approved.

I had tried personal Visa last June and was turned down for the 'first time AAdvantage card members only' reason.

So... of course YMMV, however, more proof that 18 months to repeat the churn is definitely not a rule that is written in stone.

BTW, I also have my existing AAdvantage Visa from a year ago as well (on 2 retention offers, and the 2X miles on gas and groceries marketing promotion)
