FAQ
1. Are these cards churnable?
Yes, they are. BUT youll have to wait anywhere from 12 to 26 months before applying again. Approvals have happened at the 13 month mark and denials at 24.
There is no set 18 month rule, but always err on the side of caution when churning.
Also- its from DATE OF APPROVAL and not from date of cancellation.
2.What are the most current rules in applying for these cards?
#ONLY ONE APPLICATION in a day (make that 30 hours to be safe)
#No more than 2 apps in 65 (approximately) days.
Example:
Day 1 40K personal platinum
Day 2 or later 25-30K personal gold
65+ days later 40K business
While the day limits are a little flexible by a few days either way and YMMV, the rules themselves are not flexible.
3. How long does it take for the Admiral passes to arrive?
For the better part, it takes about 3 months. This is not a set number, and some have received theirs sooner. It's been deduced that the passes are handled by a 3rd party that mails them in batches. Please dont call Citi for the passes, because youll mostly find a CSR who doesn't know better and will give you wrong information.
4. Can I apply for a business card if I dont have a business?
Technically, you can. But you may be asked for a 4506-T form, or to provide proof of business or/and a copy of a bill with your business name on it. If you don't already have a credit history for the business name you plan to use (meaning this is your first rodeo) then it is recommended you use your name as the business name with no income and 0 as years in business.
5. How do I get the statement credit?
First, you have to make sure if the offer you signed up for gave you A $150 credit or UP TO A $150 statement credit. For the 1st, any AA coded purchase ($50 AA GC seems to be the simplest option here) will/should trigger it. For the 2nd, youll have to spend $150 to get the $150 credit.
For more information on what will work and what wont, please see here (thanks sdsearch) and here (thanks dogbyte)
6. Does the $150 account credit (for AA purchases using the VISA or AMEX) count against the spending required to receive the initial mileage bonus?
No. It does not. (Put differently: any account credit you receive has no impact on your spending total for purposes of earning the "X thousand miles for $Y spent in the first Z months" bonus.)
7. Can I buy Visa gift cards to meet my minimum spend?
Theres a very good chance that itll be coded as a cash advance.
Its recommended to call citi and have them set your Cash Advance limit to zero. (thanks KennyBSAT)
8. Do I get 10% back when redeeming miles for awards?
It depends. First, the rebate program (which began in April 2012) applies only to holders of these cards:- Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage Visa Signature
- Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World MasterCard
- Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard
- Citi Select AAdvantage American Express
Also, the maximum rebate for any cardholder in a single calendar year is 10,000 miles. Having more than one qualifying Citi AA card will not allow you to receive a larger rebate; the restriction applies per AAdvantage account.
9. At what locations are my one day Club passes valid?
All valid locations are listed here.

At any rate, good find. Definitely the most solid offer since the demise of the 75,000 offers.
away7 must be new because it expires 1/31/2012. It would be interesting to see what other offers pop up by Christmas.Originally Posted by thehawk75

Certainly never came across that offer at the time, and had to settle for fly6. It has everything of the away7 offer except for the $150...well fly6 requires $500 less spending, but... 'big... deal'.At any rate, good find. Definitely the most solid offer since the demise of the 75,000 offers.

1. There are two different application timeframes that are important in this offer. Citi only allows 2 applications for ANY Citi card within a 60 day timeframe. Citi only allows 1 application for a business card every 90 days. So if you apply for a Sears card and an AA Visa, you have to wait 60+ days before applying for the business card. If you applied and were denied for just a business card, you have to wait 90+ days before trying again.

Well got my new card today with the lesser offer (sans $150 credit) through the fly6 link.
Voicing my concerns about a better offer showing up so soon (away7), I got through to retentions where they immediately gave me an $85 statement credit, an extra 750 bonus miles per month, for each month that I spend $750 for the next 12 billing cycles, and finally a one time bonus of 20,000 AAdvantage miles to post on my next statement cycle date. This of course is in addition to the 50,000 miles I'll get for having spent $2500, and the two 1-day admiral club passes that were part of the sign on offer.

They must like you more than they like me. I'm in basically the same situation, missed the 75k and wanted to get the miles in before 12/1 if possible so I applied under the same fly6 offer. I went the secure message route and only got 5k miles. Was told I wasn't solicited for it. I only did the message for the VISA, perhaps I should give a call on the AMEX to try to reach retention (approved for both)?Originally Posted by thehawk75

Does anyone know if buying some chips on board would qualify as an AA billed charge, thereby triggering the $100 statement credit offered?
The T&C's don't specifically says that it doesn't, and if it did exclude it that would leave pretty much only airfare (copays and such inlcuded) abnd maybe baggage fees as the only available AA purchases.

Success with the business card! My first business card, they took 2-3 days for a decision but they did not ask for any documentation. I took advantage of the 2 personal 75k offer this summer but just missed out on the 75k business offer.

She seemed to think that you just show the credit card upon entry into the admirals club, which sounds suspiciously like she's confusing this with the Executive MC. I told her so, and further said 'that doesn't really make sense, would it not be a paper certificate that I simply redeem with them', but, she continued to insist that the passes are tied to the credit card and AAdvantage number, so AA will 'deduct' a 'AC credit' from the card.
Although this is plausible, I would figure a paper pass would be more likely. However, if she is accurate, then this very much sucks, because we won't be able to give the passes away to friends/family.

I'm really doubting this since the T&C state:Originally Posted by thehawk75

Each pass must be filled in completely and presented at time of visit. "Pass holder" must be at least 18 years of age and hold a same-day ticket for travel on American Airlines that allows clearance though security for flight departure and access to the Admirals Club lounge.

Technically speaking, which tickets allow access to the Admirals Club lounge? International First & Business right? So this could be interpreted as a redundant benefit Originally Posted by teege

I received the AMEX 50K (the $2.5K spend) card and when I called in to verify my passes, they said that all I have to show is my AMEX card for entry. I asked how do they know if I haven't already used them, and she replied that I can have access to the lounge as long as I have the card, indefinately!!! I really can't believe this benefit to be true or even possible, but she went to ask around and came back with the same answer. Has anyone else had experience with this type of response? I'm 99.9% certain she/they have confused this 2 AC day passes bonus of the regular card with the AC membership benefit of the Executive card.
I will call back in a couple weeks to inquire about the passes again, hopefully by then the CSR's are a little more up to date. Or perhaps they'll just mail out the passes when the statement in which I hit my spending requirement for the miles closes -- which will happen in less than a couple of weeks for me.
