FAQ

1. Are these cards churnable?
Yes, they are. BUT youll have to wait anywhere from 12 to 26 months before applying again. Approvals have happened at the 13 month mark and denials at 24.
There is no set 18 month rule, but always err on the side of caution when churning.
Also- its from DATE OF APPROVAL and not from date of cancellation.

2.What are the most current rules in applying for these cards?
#ONLY ONE APPLICATION in a day (make that 30 hours to be safe)
#No more than 2 apps in 65 (approximately) days.
Example:
Day 1 40K personal platinum
Day 2 or later 25-30K personal gold
65+ days later 40K business

While the day limits are a little flexible by a few days either way and YMMV, the rules themselves are not flexible.

3. How long does it take for the Admiral passes to arrive?
For the better part, it takes about 3 months. This is not a set number, and some have received theirs sooner. It's been deduced that the passes are handled by a 3rd party that mails them in batches. Please dont call Citi for the passes, because youll mostly find a CSR who doesn't know better and will give you wrong information.

4. Can I apply for a business card if I dont have a business?
Technically, you can. But you may be asked for a 4506-T form, or to provide proof of business or/and a copy of a bill with your business name on it. If you don't already have a credit history for the business name you plan to use (meaning this is your first rodeo) then it is recommended you use your name as the business name with no income and 0 as years in business.

5. How do I get the statement credit?
First, you have to make sure if the offer you signed up for gave you A $150 credit or UP TO A $150 statement credit. For the 1st, any AA coded purchase ($50 AA GC seems to be the simplest option here) will/should trigger it. For the 2nd, youll have to spend $150 to get the $150 credit.
For more information on what will work and what wont, please see here (thanks sdsearch) and here (thanks dogbyte)

6. Does the $150 account credit (for AA purchases using the VISA or AMEX) count against the spending required to receive the initial mileage bonus?
No. It does not. (Put differently: any account credit you receive has no impact on your spending total for purposes of earning the "X thousand miles for $Y spent in the first Z months" bonus.)

7. Can I buy Visa gift cards to meet my minimum spend?
Theres a very good chance that itll be coded as a cash advance.
Its recommended to call citi and have them set your Cash Advance limit to zero. (thanks KennyBSAT)

8. Do I get 10% back when redeeming miles for awards?
It depends. First, the rebate program (which began in April 2012) applies only to holders of these cards:
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage Visa Signature
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World MasterCard
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard
  • Citi Select AAdvantage American Express
It does not apply if you hold only the Citi Gold World MasterCard.

Also, the maximum rebate for any cardholder in a single calendar year is 10,000 miles. Having more than one qualifying Citi AA card will not allow you to receive a larger rebate; the restriction applies per AAdvantage account.

9. At what locations are my one day Club passes valid?
All valid locations are listed here.

Currently have 1 Amex 1 Visa, both at the 2 year mark approximately. Never had a biz.

Was thinking about Amex personal then Visa personal or Amex personal then Biz MC.
Before any apps, you should read the last 10 pages of the relevant thread to see what the latest data points show. If you do that here, you will notice post #6698 which I posted yesterday.

All the links on the first page are dead now except the 50K for 2,500 personal Visa (the Visa/Amex personal cards are now dead too).

I'd guess its days are numbered.

No complaints! Got the $150 credit without spending anything.

NOW the AA gift card shows as invalid:

"We are sorry but we have encountered a problem activating your American Airlines Gift Card. Please contact the sender of this card to advise them you were unable to retrieve your gift. We apologize for any inconvenience."

An email from AA after trying to access the card:

"Johnxxx XXXXDoe was unable to retrieve your $50.00 American Airlines Gift Card bought on April ##, 2013. Please contact our Incentive TrAAvel team at 800.677.9555 if you have questions."
Everyone who received a refund for the GC purchase - did you order an e-gift card or a physical card? On another thread someone suggested that this might be specific to e-gift cards that aren't opened within one week, wanted to know if there is anything to that theory.
Thanks!

Data point:

After applying in march for the personal AMEX (45K after 3K spend) I finally got approved last Friday. CSR confirmed the Statement credit of up to $150, and the 3K spend starts from activation date, not application date. Does this sound right?

Approval date is normally used. The system usually would give that info when you call to activate your card and stay on the line to talk to a CSR.

You may want to send a SM once you receive your card and register it for online access to confirm the date - because your app was done in MARCH.

You want to get a concrete answer in WRITING to make sure the timeline.

Applied and approved for the 50k after $2500 spend Visa Platinum link in the first post. Haven't called to confirm bonus yet. This is my first AA branded CC and second Citi CC (have the Citi Forward also).

The pamphlet that comes in the mail with the AA cc offer doesn't come with passes or credit. Includes first bag free, priority boarding with group 1. Nothing else.

Thanks!
I ordered a e-gift card for $50, received the $150 credit, and the charge was reversed as others have mentioned.

When did this occur?
So buying $50 gc will generate the full $150 credit?

See the Wiki your fellow FTer created. It is clearly explained there and highlighted the important words in Red.

If the condition is After First Purchase.

That links are dead several weeks ago.

The current link is UP TO, $50 GC is $50 credit.

But this link also is dead now.

With my recently activated Citi AA Visa, I called in to get my CA set to 0. The guy on the phone was not very familiar with this option and after doing some searching saw that I could change my limit to something over 3K to 750. However, he added that this would only prevent cash advances from financial institutions. Any merchant purchases that were coded as cash advances would still go through even if it were over the limit.

Did I just get the wrong rep? Should I have used any specific language when asking for this limit change?

Thanks

regarding the Citi Biz card 2 Admiral Club passes, I received this confirmation:

Unfortunately, you applied with the offer to receive the Admirals Club Pass 10-12 weeks after the membership fee has been paid on your one year account anniversary.

I applied using the link in the first post here:

3. Up to $150 statement credits for the eligible AA purchases made within 12 months of cardmembership, 45k miles after $5,000 in purchases within the first 4 months, 2 AC passes. (Thanks to FT member jeanie)

AMEX

Transactions take time to post, and for 50,000 miles I'm not leaving anything to chance. If I haven't hit the requirement within 2 months of my application, I'm going shopping, prepaying utilities and phone bills, paying work expenses and getting reimbursed, whatever it takes.

My experience as well - bought $50 e-GC, got $150 credit (when such offer for CC was available). Retrieved the card as soon as it became available. Month later I noticed a reversed charge on my AA Visa. Tried to open a eGC again and got a message "not available".

I didn't call AA to require what happened, but I'm not happy (even I still have a statement credit), since I applied for the card with higher spending requirement ($5K instead $2.5K) and less amount of miles (45K instead of 50K). Did anybody call to inquire why did AA cancel eGCs?
