FAQ

1. Are these cards churnable?
Yes, they are. BUT youll have to wait anywhere from 12 to 26 months before applying again. Approvals have happened at the 13 month mark and denials at 24.
There is no set 18 month rule, but always err on the side of caution when churning.
Also- its from DATE OF APPROVAL and not from date of cancellation.

2.What are the most current rules in applying for these cards?
#ONLY ONE APPLICATION in a day (make that 30 hours to be safe)
#No more than 2 apps in 65 (approximately) days.
Example:
Day 1 40K personal platinum
Day 2 or later 25-30K personal gold
65+ days later 40K business

While the day limits are a little flexible by a few days either way and YMMV, the rules themselves are not flexible.

3. How long does it take for the Admiral passes to arrive?
For the better part, it takes about 3 months. This is not a set number, and some have received theirs sooner. It's been deduced that the passes are handled by a 3rd party that mails them in batches. Please dont call Citi for the passes, because youll mostly find a CSR who doesn't know better and will give you wrong information.

4. Can I apply for a business card if I dont have a business?
Technically, you can. But you may be asked for a 4506-T form, or to provide proof of business or/and a copy of a bill with your business name on it. If you don't already have a credit history for the business name you plan to use (meaning this is your first rodeo) then it is recommended you use your name as the business name with no income and 0 as years in business.

5. How do I get the statement credit?
First, you have to make sure if the offer you signed up for gave you A $150 credit or UP TO A $150 statement credit. For the 1st, any AA coded purchase ($50 AA GC seems to be the simplest option here) will/should trigger it. For the 2nd, youll have to spend $150 to get the $150 credit.
For more information on what will work and what wont, please see here (thanks sdsearch) and here (thanks dogbyte)

6. Does the $150 account credit (for AA purchases using the VISA or AMEX) count against the spending required to receive the initial mileage bonus?
No. It does not. (Put differently: any account credit you receive has no impact on your spending total for purposes of earning the "X thousand miles for $Y spent in the first Z months" bonus.)

7. Can I buy Visa gift cards to meet my minimum spend?
Theres a very good chance that itll be coded as a cash advance.
Its recommended to call citi and have them set your Cash Advance limit to zero. (thanks KennyBSAT)

8. Do I get 10% back when redeeming miles for awards?
It depends. First, the rebate program (which began in April 2012) applies only to holders of these cards:
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage Visa Signature
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World MasterCard
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard
  • Citi Select AAdvantage American Express
It does not apply if you hold only the Citi Gold World MasterCard.

Also, the maximum rebate for any cardholder in a single calendar year is 10,000 miles. Having more than one qualifying Citi AA card will not allow you to receive a larger rebate; the restriction applies per AAdvantage account.

9. At what locations are my one day Club passes valid?
All valid locations are listed here.

Was this for the gold MC? I searched your posts back to March and couldn't find the backstory on this. I sent in the IRS form today which they requested for my gold MC app to move forward. For 30k miles they can look at all the tax returns they want.

Another data point

Got instant approval on the 50K Personal Visa from the front page on 5/8.

Just applied 25 minutes ago for the 50K Business Visa from the front page and got instant approval for $1k CL.

I hold no Citi AA card. Will I be able to get the Visa linked in post #1, and the Executive Mastercard (the one with the $450 fee, Admirals Club access, etc.) at the same time?

1 personal Citi card per day, 2 per 65 days. You should be able to get both, but not on the same day.

It's linked to my original card in a sense that as long as I keep it, the Amex has no annual fee. I received 25,000 AA miles after I put $750 on the Amex.

No clue what this does to my ability to "churn" in 12 to 18 to 24 months.
Did you get a hard pull for getting this AMEX card? Thanks

Citi bank is a joke. I opened 2 AA accounts in early March with 2 Admiral passes confirmed for both personal and business. I haven`t received them and called at least 10 times. I was told different stories: wait, go to Admiral club and get them there, we don`t offer them anymore, etc. I spoke to a rude customer relations person at Business accounts Sheena at Maryland office, team 46, who said the are not giving me any passes. I felt like she works there not to solve issues but harm Citi`s reputation. After I meet the spending req, I am gone. No more Citi b/s.

I've had very good luck with Citi phone reps. However, Kat007, I'd suggest sending a short request using the Secure Message option online. Don't re-iterate everything that happened. Just state you never received passes you were offered and want this fixed and want to know when they'll arrive.

I have an offer for one of these "Linked" Amexes, too. My offer expired a few weeks ago but the landing page still shows up... we know that's usually good news with Citi!

I wonder a few things about it myself... for starters, I wonder if it would be churnable against other cards (I have one personal Visa that's <30 days old and a M/C from 2008) I plan on keeping the M/C and this linked, no fee card with such a small spend requirement is a no brainer. I'm going to wait 65+ days for my Visa to age, then see if the landing page still shows up.

I spoke to another person who kept me on hold for a while while investigating the matter (I don`t mind to wait in such cases). She then said they didn`t have passes anymore and were going to either find a way to send them or compensate with miles (she didn`t know when though). Don`t know who to believe after so many different stories.

I opened my account in late February, and I only received the passes a few weeks ago. They came right after I met the minimum spend. I agree, this seems to be a a new perk for AA - the passes are little printed pieces of paper. But you might still get them.

1) Read a couple pages back here, there is no rhyme or reason to how Admiral's Club passes get sent out, but the consensus is that it's done by a third-party fulfillment agency and processed in batches, usuall a couple full months after the app is approved.

2) On that last point, the implication is that you getting all feisty at a Citi person isn't going to help anything.

3) People calling up and going nuts about minutiae of an offer that expired literally YEARS ago are going to be the ones who end up blowing up the whole deal, if it hasn't happened already (reports coming in that Citi is shutting this thing down, see posts from a couple days ago).

AC passes are the least valuable part of the deal anyhow. Just be happy with the 50k in all honesty. Get an AMEX plat if you need club access.

50K & $150 Success

I used the link for the 50K, $150 right before it expired.

Applied online - did not get instant approval.

Waited a few weeks and then called the status line to see what was going on.
They said there were errors and it had to manually processed.

Didn't ask about bonus or anything.

Got an email a few days later and then the card.
I did not call again.
Spent my $3K which included 3 Main cabin extra charges (the only AA spending I had.)

Statement just closed.
$150 statement credit.
50K bonus posted at AA.

Lesson. Be patient and don't ask about bonus.

I applied on 5/6/2013. I sent a secure message after receiving the card asking about the signup offer. This is the reply I got.

You will receive a statement credit of up to $150.00 on American Airlines purchases within 12 months of the account opening. The dollar amount of the American Airlines purchase(s) will be matched with a statement credit up to $150.00. Eligible American Airlines purchases are defined as the purchase of items billed by American Airlines as merchant of record. Products or services that do not qualify are car rentals, hotel reservations, American Airlines VacationSM packages, purchases of American Airlines AAdvantage miles, duty free purchases, and AA CargoSM products and services.

You can earn 1 additional mile per dollar on American Airline purchases made using this card within 12 months.

You can earn 45,000 bonus miles after making $5000.00 in purchases using this card within 4 months of the date the account was established. This offer will expire on 9/6/2013.

Bonus miles are reported from the billing statement on which the purchase requirement is met.
