FAQ
1. Are these cards churnable?
Yes, they are. BUT youll have to wait anywhere from 12 to 26 months before applying again. Approvals have happened at the 13 month mark and denials at 24.
There is no set 18 month rule, but always err on the side of caution when churning.
Also- its from DATE OF APPROVAL and not from date of cancellation.
2.What are the most current rules in applying for these cards?
#ONLY ONE APPLICATION in a day (make that 30 hours to be safe)
#No more than 2 apps in 65 (approximately) days.
Example:
Day 1 40K personal platinum
Day 2 or later 25-30K personal gold
65+ days later 40K business
While the day limits are a little flexible by a few days either way and YMMV, the rules themselves are not flexible.
3. How long does it take for the Admiral passes to arrive?
For the better part, it takes about 3 months. This is not a set number, and some have received theirs sooner. It's been deduced that the passes are handled by a 3rd party that mails them in batches. Please dont call Citi for the passes, because youll mostly find a CSR who doesn't know better and will give you wrong information.
4. Can I apply for a business card if I dont have a business?
Technically, you can. But you may be asked for a 4506-T form, or to provide proof of business or/and a copy of a bill with your business name on it. If you don't already have a credit history for the business name you plan to use (meaning this is your first rodeo) then it is recommended you use your name as the business name with no income and 0 as years in business.
5. How do I get the statement credit?
First, you have to make sure if the offer you signed up for gave you A $150 credit or UP TO A $150 statement credit. For the 1st, any AA coded purchase ($50 AA GC seems to be the simplest option here) will/should trigger it. For the 2nd, youll have to spend $150 to get the $150 credit.
For more information on what will work and what wont, please see here (thanks sdsearch) and here (thanks dogbyte)
6. Does the $150 account credit (for AA purchases using the VISA or AMEX) count against the spending required to receive the initial mileage bonus?
No. It does not. (Put differently: any account credit you receive has no impact on your spending total for purposes of earning the "X thousand miles for $Y spent in the first Z months" bonus.)
7. Can I buy Visa gift cards to meet my minimum spend?
Theres a very good chance that itll be coded as a cash advance.
Its recommended to call citi and have them set your Cash Advance limit to zero. (thanks KennyBSAT)
8. Do I get 10% back when redeeming miles for awards?
It depends. First, the rebate program (which began in April 2012) applies only to holders of these cards:
Also, the maximum rebate for any cardholder in a single calendar year is 10,000 miles. Having more than one qualifying Citi AA card will not allow you to receive a larger rebate; the restriction applies per AAdvantage account.
9. At what locations are my one day Club passes valid?
All valid locations are listed here.

If you have no luck getting the fee waived, instead of cancelling you can try downgrading. There is a bronze version of the AA card which gives 0.5 miles/$ and it has no annual fee. I don't know if Citi still allows this. The poor earning ratio makes this card pretty useless. Just use it once or twice a month for small purchases. The advantage is that when you apply for a card in the future, you will have a credit line to help with reconsideration (if needed) and longer history. I think the bronze card would allow you to take advantage of Citi checking offers too.
For your spouse, have a look at the sticky in this forum. He could get another big bonus from Chase/Amex but the annual fee issue will come up in another year. Most rewards cards have a fee. The only ones I know of that don't have it are Citi/Amex Hilton cards. Also some cards will give you some anniversary benefits which will negate the fees.

I saw a couple people mentioned the 75K one, I wish I have found this forum sooner.... but I think I have done pretty well in the past already...
Just in case if some of you might be interested in this 15k, 25k and 50k AA miles offers from Fidelity, I have got 150K AA miles from similar firms since 2009. Here is the link; https://scs.fidelity.com/other/offer...tion_aa2.shtml

hey guys,
how long does it take to get the $150 statement credit for 1st purchase from AA?
I purchased a online gift cert from them for $150. i got the statement credit, but no $150 credit. I'm not too worried about the timing around it, other than the concern I am not coded for the right offer (going to email them now to verify).
For those who have gotten the statement credit, how long does it take to get?
EDIT: if it matters, purchase made on 11/28, statement closed on 12/2.
EDIT2: does it always show up on the statement of the purchase, or does it show up as a line item credit a few days after purchase (which might explain why it hasnt shown up yet, since i purchased pretty close to the statement close date)?

strange, heard back from them. they said I was coded for 50,000 miles after $2500 spending and the admiral club passes and nothing about the $150 statement credit. she asked me to scan the front/back of the offer so they could see it. I sent back the away7 link, as I dont have anything to mail. anyone else run into similar issues?

I can verify that this offer is still good for both the personal and business VISA even though the offer page says it expired 10/30/2011. I applied for both personal and business cards for my mother today and both were approved instantly. Each card had a different credit limit.
Mom and I are happy campers as she will be letting me use her aadvantage miles to travel.

Do you have to fly AA in order to use the day pass?

I am afraid so. From the fine print:
"Pass holder" must be at least 18 years of age and hold a same-day ticket for travel on American Airlines that allows clearance through security for flight departure and access to the Admirals Club lounge.

The decline for too many inquiries is a systemic automated decline. I successfully requested resubmission by doing the following:
* pulled a copy of the credit bureau in question
* wrote a short letter highlighting my positives
* low debt, high FICO, long credit file, etc
* faxed in the above for the quickest reconsideration by a live person
Keep in mind the bureau I faxed back was exactly the same inquiries they declined me for. I just had a real person take a better overall look at my total qualifications. Cards came soon after.
