It's been my experience that most of the time if you enter special rate ID 00801519 the rate program drop-box then comes up with "50+ (Mature Traveler) Rate" hightlighted but that the Sixty Plus rate is available elsewhere in the dropbox. However, there still have been occasions where I've had to call the CSR and ask for it.
And, yes, the standard way to book 60+ is indeed over the phone. In some e-mail campaigns, however, Choice has provided links/codes for online booking. It isn't surprising that some of those expire after some time.
Indeed you are correct. AARP always used to be 15% and the Sixty Plus sometimes was as high as 20% off. The web site now says the "Senior Traveler" rate is only 10% off, but the ads for the Little League and LPGA rates still claim "up to 15%".
First a bad promo and now a reduction in my favorite discounts. I am feeling unloved by Choice, might explain why I haven't had a stay with them in months.

It looks like the AARP portal now takes you to a page that offers the "Senior Rate". I know there are various explanations*, but, at the Quality Inn where I stayed most frequently (pre points devaluation and in the days when the promos were 2-stays-for-8,000 pts., or 3-stays-for 14,000 pts.), for the fall this rate is down below what the 60+ rate was when it existed.
* Where I stayed last winter, all the hotels were discounting at least 20% below their Directory listings. Perhaps again?
It appears Choice has increased the age requirements for discounts. It used to be 50 and now the Senior rate starts at 60.
Looks like I'll be going somewhere else with my business that recognizes AARP.
I think the confusion is that there are 3 senior rate codes with varying levels of availability. There is one for AARP (10%) that is available to hotel desk clerks (no code needed) or online (must enter member number.) There is another one that is CRS only (10%) (online no special code) or through 1-800 AND there is a third one (15%) that is only available through CRS (online with special code) or through 1-800. This is used for senior guests who will not accept the 10% discount.
The online codes do change every so often. So it may be that they have decided to change the 15% senior discount rate code. To get it you may have to book through 1-800 unless you can find the new code.
