We think alike. I am bringing a supply of aspirin & tylenol.
I fly to Shanghai and then connect on to Beijing. I assume I will be interviewed by customs in BJ and not Shanghai. However, Shanghai might have the zap machines to check for fever. I won't take a pill unless I feel sick.
You would clear entry to China in Shanghai not Beijing. Customs only checks
for goods brought in. Interviews would be by DPS and Health Dept.
I have seen passengers at LAX , CI gate wearing masks. Looks kind of strange
but ...
My TA told us to wear masks for the flight to China. I think it will be too uncomfortable. I get a flu shot every year. I'm not worried about catching the flu. I just don't want to be quarantined!
I guess we may be examined in Shanghai. Either way I think I'll get zapped twice.

There is an outlet mall not far from my house in suburban LA. The place is very popular among visitors from Japan, Chna, Korea etc.
I was rather entertained a couple weeks ago when I saw some of them shopping there wearing masks. That sure looked strange...
On a related note, do they screen people on HKG-mainland flights?

HKG screening process
Anyone recently flew into HKG from North America or Europe? I am curious what kind of screening process they are taking? I heard that if they detect someone with signs of fever in the cabin, passengers sitting nearby (3 rows front and back) will be quarantined as well?
bit worried here as i am planning a week long vacation in HK/China at the end of the month... it'd be horrendous if i end up quarantined the whole time!
Also how long does the whole on board screening take?
Hi! My sisters and I are traveling to Beijing in mid-July, but I am also a bit concerned about the quarantine and procedures in Japan and Beijing. We are flying from the US to Tokyo to Beijing, and I read on other forums that there is a similar situation in Tokyo where the passenger's temps are being checked. If we have a layover of about 2.5 hours in Tokyo...will that be enough time to make our flight to Beijing? And if one of us does have a temp or needs to be taken off the plane, can we all go? Sorry if I sound a bit nervous - none of us speak any chinese/japanese and we are all pretty young (21, 19, and 17)!

I wouldn't worry unduly - although there is some luck of the draw about those sitting around you.
I've no recent experience at NRT, but in Beijing I would estimate the temp check added maybe 15 minutes to deplaning. About the same delay encountered if you end up at a hard stand and need to be bussed to the terminal.
Lack of language has never been a problem for me at those airports.
Just for fun, I'll mention that I was screened one more time checking into the Crowne Plaza near the Beijing airport. They scanned my hand and said I was fine at 30.5 degreees C.

I have worried for a month over the quarantine and have decided, What will be, will be.
Thousands of passengers go through the airport and just a few get pulled over.
Hopefully there won't be a sick passenger near us.
Are passengers any less likely to be quarantined if they are wearing a mask? Or are people just doing this as a self-protective health precaution? Are any carriers screening passengers before boarding to reduce the risk of quarantine upon arrival in China?

I just got back from trip flying ORD-HKG-PVG-PEK-HKG-ORD
I had to fill out health form in Hong Kong, but on both flights into Hong Kong they did not take temperatures.
When I flew into Shanghai, they did both inflight and then when we arrived at the gate. There were 4 people on my flight that were taken off and held in a room by passport control.
Before you enter passport control they were really scrutinizing the health forms.
If it wasn't for the people taken for further health checks (I have no idea what happened to them) it did'nt take long for them to take everyone's temperature on my FM 738.
Has anyone been to China recently? Please give us some update on the status of screening procedures and time required for the process. Has it changed in any significant ways? What are likely to happen within the next month? Improve or deteriorate? Thanks for any info that might ease my anxiety for my upcoming short trip to China.

We travel at the beginning of July. A few of us have gotten sick in NYC already. For all I know, we may have recovered from the flu. Weather has been horrible and people getting sick all around. I don't care anymore!
