Beijing subway - some stations now have TSA-like security measures

These security checkpoints are nothing new. I took the Beijing subway several times earlier this week and saw no difference. If you could quantify the "delay" it would be in the order of 10 seconds. Nothing like the pictures.

I think the pictures are of the railway station, not the subway, aren't they. At railway stations they x-ray your baggage and check you brielfy with a metal detector, so there can be a queue. At subway stations in Shanghai, they have been asking people to put their bags though x-ray machines for several years now--but this causes minimal delay.

Regarding train stations v. subway stations, the procedures aren't so different but the train people seem to be a tad more diligent. There are also metal detectors at train stations but I've never seen a single person pulled aside so I am willing to call this a non-issue.
