Shanghai-Nanjing Direct Flight Relaunched (MU)

For those needing to get from Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG) to Nanjing (NKG) quickly, a non-stop MU flight is being relaunched as of the 28th November 2009.
I'll still take the train, but for those flying into PVG with Nanjing as their final destination, this may be a good option. Remember though, Nanjing City is still a 45 minute drive from NKG.
If already in downtown Shanghai, definitely take the train.

I never fancy in and out Chinese train stations, always reminds me the worst part of Gare de L'Est.

And if you carry luggages, the endless up and down steps will be your nightmare.

A good move for this connection flight, at least this time they fly to PVG, not SHA. Hopefully this time they will cancel the route after just three days.

It's probably still more convenient to take the LH direct flight from FRA-NKG, especially given that getting out from the airplane in NKG to the exit of the airport is taking like 15-20min at maximum, compared to an hour or so in PVG.

So, if you fly from Europe within the *A network, this new connection won't help much, as LH offers much more convenience. Especially as you probably still have to pick up luggage and re-check it at PVG. The new express line from Shanghai railway station to Nanjing (which is completely renovated by now) is really quick. And unless you need to go to the South-East of the town, train is probably quicker by now.

But thanks for the information. Might actually make sense to use the other way round, as LH sometimes have super-cheap offers into NKG, and just to continue the flight to PVG this way. Especially as connecting in NKG will certainly be easier as it is in PVG.

The connection is a bit tight (1:10), but I suppose there's little downside to trying (i.e. just head to train station if you miss it,... door to door time still a wash).

And let's not forget about CX/KA via HKG to NKG. The train trip Shanghai - Nanjing I last did in late September. Quite pleasant and some of the more "express" type D trains do not call at too many intermediate stations.
