An updated story.

I have to question the entire security operations at LAX. Why was this guy not held for several hours in an effort to determine who he was and what was he up to?
And I'll repeat your not-as-ludicrous-as-some people-would-think question...
DHS/TSA manufactured event?
Point by point -
  • Laptop ban gets pushback from Europe, etc.
  • Guy clearly in some kind of state already under charges is released and allowed to board a subsequent flight from the same airport in which he was arrested.
  • Guy is provided a laptop under recommendation of flight staff.
  • Guy is by passenger accounts not right.
  • Guy walks slowly towards front of plane with laptop.
  • Guy is restrained by passengers.
  • Flight crew issues alert that scrambles fighter jets.
  • Initial reports headline the laptop.
Yeah, to the cynical that looks like a put up job.
But of course the government would never lie to the public to bolster support for an unpopular regulation. Never.

My only reaction:

Given how few F-22s we have...how did the Hawaii Air National Guard get them?

As far as I can determine, nobody took a picture of the F-22s out the window of the airliner. If I had gotten a look at the tail insignia, I could have determined whether they were active duty (Hickam) or ANG. Either way, there's a one-word explanation: Inouye.

I know he died in 2012, but his influence and his pork live on.

Both ANG and AF.

The Hawaii National Air Guard's 199th Fighter Squadron and the Active Duty Air Force's 19th Fighter Squadron, is in full training mode with the arrival of the last four of its F-22 Raptors. The fleet is now complete, the first set started taking delivery in July 2010, and 18 are now housed on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (two are under depot maintenance on the Mainland).

There is a bonafide reason why the 22's are based in Hawaii and were allocated to squadron's there.

i will leave it at that.

It had nothing to fo with a certain politician.

No mystery, last line of defense before the west coast.

No. The "last line" is maintained by the F-15s in Alaska and F-16's and F-15's on the West Coast.

The F-22's are close enough to Guam or Japan and South Korea to scramble in the event things get out of control and/or there is a need to show force with the problems the US Navy and Air Force are currently having with the China man-made atolls in the South China Sea.

They are there as an offensive option if there is a need.

Yes, an amazing job by the FA. Movies would have been made if he made it 25 feet farther. Amerikan style.
