You wouldn't think he or his entourage would be unfamiliar with airport checkpoints.

He's no Britney Spears and there's a difference between a cup of soda and a gun.

FWIW: "booked him on suspicion of possession of a firearm by a felon."

So, according to this report, he wasn't arrested for bringing a gun through security. Rather, he was arrested because his friend, whose bag it was in, said the gun was Coolio's — and Coolio is a felon, so he's not allowed to have guns.

I don't really care enough to FOIA this, though if anyone wants to, the CA PRA is pretty good for requesters. You'd have to ask the LAX PD.

http://ktla.com/2016/09/17/two-men-a...irearm-at-lax/ and http://www.dailynews.com/general-new...-found-in-bag/ say police claim the gun was stolen.

Coolio has a response video up.

https://www.tmz.com/2016/09/17/cooli...x-gun-airport/ says the gun was his bodyguard's.

1:55 PM PST -- Cops tell us even though Coolio's bodyguard first claimed possession of the bag, a quick investigation determined other items inside it belonged to Coolio.
Felon, Stolen Gun, Airport. Someone is going to jail.

A rep for Coolio tells us the gun belongs to the rapper's security guard but he's been detained for questioning and will be fully cooperative.
I have no knowledge either way, obviously. Just pointing out that there's some confusion in the public statements about who owns the bag and who owns the gun. I assume there'll be more info to come, though neither is particularly relevant to airport security per se IMHO, since neither of them were charged with anything relating to having brought a gun through the checkpoint — just with the provenance and ownership of the particular gun in question.

Without caring enough to read any of the documents I suggest the authorities are waiting to file other charges pending clearing up the confusion over who was in possession of what.
