TSA spokeswoman Lori Dankers says that aside from the identification mistake, Salata was properly screened.
So if TSA screws up it's still "proper procedures were followed".

It's clearly more important to follow "proper procedures" than to get reasonable results.

The TSA should come out to just admit that identification of passengers is not needed for passengers to be "properly screened". But the TSA won't do so because then their power to behave like petty, little Napoleons just won't be there like it is now.

Let's hope TSA doesn't use this as an excuse to double-down on the pax.

After all, he might have been caught earlier if the TDC had asked him his name and destination.

I would be surprised if TSA doesn't up the name game at that airport.

The TSA "fix" for failing to follow its own rules is to complicate the process for itself.

Yup. Even though it was a clear TDC failure to compare the name on the ID with the name on the BP.

If he had ID, and didn't go through the enhanced process. (Though that involves knowing the name and where you're flying, and the likely gender mismatch ought to raise suspicions.)

If these were 37mm flares, they should send them to me for proper disposal. I'll even pay the postage.
