I may be off-base on this, however. Can someone enlighten me a bit?
Yeabut. In some cases those government agencies are operated in a quasi-private manner. It gets murkier when you consider ownership vs management (in other words, owned publicly but managed by a private concern).

Most smaller general aviation airports are still owned by the local jurisdiction or state - some are privately owned.

I am only aware of one airport at which TSA operates that is privately-owned. All the rest are run by some form of government agency and, as such, have to abide by the restrictions placed on governments. That includes photography.

A: Personal pictures may be taken in the airport, however photographs of security operations and personnel are not allowed. This applies to the screening areas.

MSY and GPT used to be airports that I used before my boycott of air travel beginning in November, 2010.

I got the Q&A segment from the FAQ's portion of MSY's site. Scroll down to the "Miscellaneous" section.

Thanks for pointing this out. I have had a good e-mail exchange with MSY and bottom line the information is wrong and will be changed this afternoon. I commend MSY for their quick response.

MCO

I lost the precheck lottery today, so opted out of the MMW. This is the first time I haven't had to wait a long time (usually 8-10 min.) for a female groper; she was there in about 1 minute. It was also the tamest grope I've had. No fingers in the waistband. No having to take tissues out of a pocket, which I always forget about until the groper finds a bump there. She did swab my hands, which is not the norm for me.

On February 1, on the way to YYZ for a concert on my birthday, February 2, my father and I took DL from BOS. Since the security people(s) roped off their metal detector, I opted out. I termed it as "I'd like a pat-down." What the heck kind of world are we living in where I say the words "I'd like a pat-down"?!!!!

I thought my father'd be able to watch my stuff but evidently that wasn't the case, so I took all my stuff into the side room with me when they grabbed two female assists. I remembered to take off my belt this time, and the woman explained everything in what felt like a simpering voice even though I'm sure it actually wasn't simpering. She said "I have to tell you this." She also told me that the machines are completely safe. I of course don't believe that.

I think I thanked her at the end, which is kind of creepy since the whole point is to get touched by someone you're theoretically not attracted to...

And on the way back we flew Porter and we only had to deal with metal detectors!

The screener said it was my husband's choice to opt out and "you could have been on your plane already".
Do TSA employees ever fly anywhere?

Most can't afford it on their government salary. A few have working spouses that make travel a real possibility.

MCO has most options of any airport for SDOO. One should never have to opt out of the virtual strip search, unless they specifically want to. Just hop from one line to the next, as only about half the lanes lead to a nude-o-scope. The rest are WTMD only.

Not anymore, IMO. All but the Pre-Check lanes have MMW installed. When the backscatter was installed, there were several WTMD only lines.

You may be right, despite me being there just a couple days ago. I knew A was getting more nos' especially at the side entrance, but I really thought I saw B as still having cetner lanes with WTMD

B would make sense (I've only been through A), though it always looks like the only WTMD lane is Pre-Check.

I was in B terminal. When you fail PreCheck, they make you go through the line next to it, which has both WTMD and MMW. But an agent was guarding the WTMD and not letting anyone through it. I tried.
