i estimated $0.07/pt per point based on booking that itinerary with cash. It may be a little off but i'm still really happy with the result.

Is you business class ticket more expensive than that? Will you have to use all of your 95k pts for the ticket?
No, cash cost for the ticket would be ~$835 so transferring would be the best value.

I am just trying to avoid making the mistake of using 152k miles for a business class booking RT EWR and BKK again (different alliance though)!

Having trouble following the arithmetic. To purchase an $835 ticket with points you would use only 66,800 and you would earn miles on the paid fare. Why is it better to use 95,000 for an award ticket?

Cash cost for a business ticket is only 835? Where are you flying? Chicago to Detroit?

It was a typo...$2835 and the actual points are 80K with 15K left in the account.

80,000 for a $2,835 ticket is a very reasonable redemption.

Try calling in to see if you can get a fee waiver or other retention offer

But won't 24mo bonus Nov 2016 churn be more likely
if card cancelled year ago in Nov 2015??

Is Ink Busn Plus a 24mo-since-signup churn?

Where to put the points?

Just canceled my CSP (no fee waiver). Have about 26k points (not that impressive) and curious if people have suggestions to get the most bang-for-my-buck.

I have AA and soon BA. Could just take the cash, but wanted to know if there were better options.

Thanks!

google "best use of Chase Ultimate Points"

lots of options! what are your travel patterns?

You can transfer to amtrak if you travel by train at all (not many ppl do). but starting at the end of jan those points will be worth about 0.028 cents each for short-travel (currently worth about 2c/pt for short travel, but could be much more valuable for long-term travel if you book before jan).

or transfer them to one of the many airline options. I like southwest for cheap travel, but UR points are 'only' worth 0.015 cents each when transferred to SW.

Hyatt also tends to have good redemption options for 5k, 8k, or 12k (or half that, if you use cash + points)

Hi PoorHD, welcome to Flyertalk.

We have a large, complex thread that you may find helpful in discussions on UR points. I'm going to merge this into the existing thread, found here:

Best use of Ultimate Rewards Points

So I realize this is a "good" problem and also subjective, but I'm hoping for some suggestions. I have close to 300,000 Ultimate Rewards points and my wife and I also have about 60,000 miles eash in United Airlines accounts.

We are thinking about a first class trip to Asia or Austrailia. Should we stick to United Airlines or is there another airline that we should consider in terms of miles and/or ammenities. So for example how many more or less miles would another carrier potentially be - and if it's more, is it "worth" using the miles.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

One final question: We also have lots of miles on American -so, should we consider first class on American Airlines before the devaluation and how does American first class compare with that of United or one of the other airlines we could use with Ultimate Rewards transfer.
