This thread covers how to use Ultimate Reward Points for booking all types of travel via the Ultimate Rewards portal.

1) How do I book a ticket? Choose my airfare class?
Login to ultimaterewards.com
Click: Use points > Explore and Book Travel
Click the button that defaults to [1 Traveler, All]
Change "Class" (the first entry in the pull-down) from All to Business
Click: Close

2) How far in advance can I book?
In mid-November 2017 it was reported that airline reservations are available only 270 days in advance. Read HERE.

3) How do I book hotels?
Follow the steps above to log on. There are standard looking search engines offered for airfare, hotel, etc at that point.

4) How do I get the better redemption rate offered on some Chase cards?
The upper left corner of the UR page will show you which card you are logged in with. If you hold a Chase Sapphire Reserve card, you will be shown a better price on points bookings, as a 1.5 redemption rate is offered as one of the benefits of this card. If you log in to the UR portal from a different UR card, such as the Ink, you will not be offered this rate.

5) Where else can I find information?

This thread is a consolidated resource which covers topics including:

Fare buckets, here
Price differences between open market air fares and UR bookings, here
Selecting seat classes
Using cash and points to pay for tickets

and more.

Booking Flights, Rooms, Cars, etc. w/ Ultimate Rewards Points, 2014-2017

Upon searching the UR website it seems that chase does not allow for one way rentals. Has any one had any look booking a UR rental and then calling the car rental company booked to make changes to the pickup or drop off locations (i.e. picking up at a non airport location and dropping off at the airport)?

Anyone know if one way rentals are allowed on Chase UR travel portal? Google tells me you can, but I"m not able to when I try.

I called both Chase UR and Citi Thankyou and neither supports one-way rentals. They are both run by the same travel company.

If I book a delta flight using chase UR points via the UR portal, am I put in basic economy or main cabin? I'm mainly wondering if I will be able to select a seat or be assigned a seat at check-in. Thanks

You can choose any available fare (and thus cabin and seat). The UR portal just uses UR points to pay for the ticket, it doesn't offer you specific tickets (they are not award seats, for example).

There is a REPORT from late November that you would be in Basic Economy.

Thanks. I now know that seats are not selected on the Chase UR portal. But I've heard rumors that once you book on the portal, you can then go onto your skymiles page on delta.com and select a seat. Anyone know if this is true or false? Thanks.

As long as it's not basic economy, then yeah.

Well right, but the UR portal options are "Economy", "Business" or "First". So what I'm trying to understand here is that if I book "Economy", will I be able to select my seat on delta.com.

If the route you're looking at has a basic economy fare available for the flight and dates you want, then I'm guessing you'd be booked into it using UR points.

You could try calling to see if there is a different fare available. IIRC, basic economy books into E, so try a V, L, U, T fare?

Trouble Booking Travel to the Azores on Chase Site

I am trying to book a trip to the Azores in August. No major airlines fly there so I am using my Ultimate Rewards points to pay for the trip rather than transferring the points to a partner. I have a Sapphire Reserve so I would like to take advantage of the 1.5c/pt redemption value.

The main airline that flies to the Azores is Azores Airlines/Sata. I have been able to determine the ideal flights on the Azores Airlines website, but unfortunately, the same flights do not show up on the Ultimate Rewards site. Its very frustrating because SATA flights show up, but not the ones I want! Interestingly, I am able to find the flights on Orbitz and Expedia, but only if I break my trip down into one way legs. If I try to search for my ideal itinerary as a multi-city booking I cannot get the itinerary I want.

Is there any way I can get the itinerary on the ultimate rewards website so I can get the 1.5c/pt redemption value? Can I call Chase to book and just give them the flight numbers?

.....continuing the Delta discussion.

I hold an Amex Delta Gold - it entitles the card holder to a free checked bag, priority boarding, etc.

Any experience with those who hold the card and purchase a domestic Delta ticket through UR and having the Amex benefits honored?

The Amex T&C do not mention that a ticket must be purchased with the card... only that I need to include my skymiles#...... seems too easy.......

In general are CC benefits being honored through the UR portal when purchasing airfare?

I think it's attached to your skymiles number. I booked my parents through Visa Discount Air and added their skymiles numbers. They still got the free checked bag and "priority" boarding.

Car rental through UR under other's name

I found good deals of car rental in UR for my upcoming Denver trip. What's even better is that my friend (travelling with me) has a CSR, which makes 1.5 cents for each point! My question is can we book the rental under my name, using my friend's UR account since I am the one driving. I am aware this would lose the primary insurance provided by CSR. But I think cost wise, this is the best option. Is this doable?
