Opening a new chase united mileage plus explorer card, need help

so heres the situation: my father wants to open a line of credit with chase for united mileage plus explorer but does not have a united frequent flyer account. heres the question: when he opens the account, can he provide my united frequent flyer number to put on file instead? we do not have the same names. i understand this is not possible if, for example, i was to buy him a ticket because i know i can not put my ffn on someone elses ticket, but what about on a credit card application? any experience? any thoughts? thanks in advance guys :)

Definitely not. He will need his own account.

Twenty years ago I opened a chase card (with Holiday Inn) for my daughter and I cosigned. They originally gave the signup bonus to me, but they changed it to her when I called.

Why don't you just get the card? Do you already have one? Is the free luggage part of the reason for your father? I think he would probably
need a United MP account for that to work anyway.

Why doesn't he just create an MP account..it's free. In fact, they will automatically create one if he leaves the field blank.

I was able to get the 50k miles offer by sending a secure message to chase, but my brother tried the same technique and got this response. Anyone have something similar happen to them?

Please understand that the MileagePlus Explorer card with
50,000 bonus miles after $1,000 in spend in the first 3
months your account is open is a targeted offer. At this
time, we would ask that you please provide the offer code
listed on the solicitation received or the unique
Invitation Number included on the direct mail offer for
the 50,000 enrollment miles.

Perhaps he's just unlucky? Maybe try again in a few days with another SM, and hope to get a different CSR answering it. I was never asked for an "invitation number"...

Or perhaps it's possible that they look at credit scores and don't acquiesce too all requests, depending on creditworthiness.
