Today I called each of the 3 Chase personal recon numbers (tried each one once). All 3 reps I got said there was nothing they could do at this point, and I would receive a letter in the mail within the next 30 days. Thought I was maybe getting the runaround from the first rep I talked to, but I chatted it up a bit with the second and third reps who were very friendly, and I could tell they genuinely wanted to help me out but couldn't. Oh well, at least I was instantly approved for the Citi Premier and Barclay Arrival cards last night without a hitch.

So fingers crossed, but I'm expecting I'll get a decline letter from Chase in a few weeks. Would it even be worth calling recon again if that's the case? Even if it were to reallocate some of my credit with them to open this card, I think they'd have to do another hard pull at that point?

Based on the info you provided, I'm perplexed as to why you didn't get an instant approval. Much less why Recon can't help you out.

Moving credit between cards, at Recon after a new app, shouldn't mean a new HP at all. They just pulled your credit, and if they needed to do anything else, it should be a soft pull at most.

I applied for the BA and CSP cards on the same day last month. The inquiries merged into a single hard pull.

If you got approved for both, I'd say you got very lucky.

I was instantly approved for the CSP and approved after a reconsideration call for the BA. I was definitely lucky.

I decided to go for both cards because I had no hard pulls for the 7 months before my applications.

I've been approved for two Chase cards on one day twice, though I will admit it was one personal and one business both times. The first time in fact was only six days after my very first Chase personal card so my very first three Chase cards in less than a week.

5/17/13 - Hyatt
5/23/13 - SW Premier Personal
5/23/13 - SW Premier Business

10/29/14 - CSP
10/29/14 - Ink Bold

There was also one Chase business approval (2/14) and one Chase business denial (5/14) in between.

Personal and business on the same day are not uncommon.

Got a Biz United Explorer 7/2013 with SSN; re-applied 4/2015 with EIN; still get 50k?

I applied for Chase United Explorer Business Card 7/2013 with my SSN I kept it until this month when I cancelled it. I then applied for another Chase United Explorer Business Card, this time under a different business name and EIN. Will I get the 50k bonus miles?

Declined for Business Marriott. Had been lowering my credit limit but didn't get to 30K. Not sure they would have approved anyway, since I had "opened quite a few cards with us in the past year", and they want to see more history. Guess I'll have to chill with Chase for 6 months.

Is Chase Doing More ID Verification Lately?

DW has 4 Chase ccs open, and has had others closed in the past. Just applied for the UA 50K + 5K offer. Got application received page, but no ID #. Called Recon and was transferred to a "Verification Specialist", who asked various question supposed to prove it was really her:

SS#, and mothers maiden name of course, but also:

what is the credit limit on your CSP
what retailer have you charged with your CSP
what is the name of the person you added as an AU

She was then approved for $16K.

I thought the name of the AU was a really strange question, since if she had been doing a fraudulent app, she would of course know the name she put on that app.

Have any of you been getting this 'prove you are you' procedure for recent apps?

Although Chase is tougher on business applications, their "quite a few cards" refrain affects you in toto. Needless to say, it's not something you want to hear again. As you plan, sit tight for a few months. Charge as you would normally. Pay your bills on time, as I'm sure you're already doing. And refrain from further monkeying around with your credit limits. "Normal" customers don't do that.

...or OP is not good with recon. I've been told that by Chase several times and just gave them a good reason to give me the card. It worked for me. And the fact that OP has 30k in CL with a Marriott card tells me they did not really lower the CL enough to "game" the system to get an instant approval. Probably would have been smart to get down to 10k or so, and weeks before an app.

Anyhow I don't see how lowering CL has anything to do with having too many cards with the bank, but maybe RNE is more sensitive to Chase rules than the rest of us

Since you asked so nicely, I'll tell you. Both activities are abnormal. It's not normal to have a lot of credit cards from one issuer, nor is it normal to request lower credit limits. If the OP wants to lay low, he should behave normally vis-à-vis Chase.

I'd say more, but I'm aboard a transport between Phobos and Deimos and it's about to land. The teleports are down—again! Martians are industrious but technically inept. So it's taking me 6 centons to get to Diemos instead of 6 picocentons. On the bright side, I had an interesting chat with an alluring member of the Venusian House of Burgesses who was likewise obliged to use this outmoded form of transportation. We arranged to meet at the Deimos Doubletree later tonight. I hope it is a female. You can't tell for sure until their shells are off, you know.

It's not NORMAL to fly around the world in First Class, and stay in Luxury hotels, several times a year just for the fun of it. So if you want to blend in with the "Muggles", stop doing that.

But those of us who do intend to fly around the world in First Class, and stay in Luxury hotels, several times a year just for the fun of it, have to do things somewhat differently.

Like the OP above, I too have been told by Chase Recon that I've gotten too many cards recently, and after patiently explaining why I needed all of those cards (not for the CLs, but for the benefits of the cards) I've gotten my apps approved.

And contrary to the strange advice to keep my CLs so high that it makes Chase nervous for good reason, I've found that "monkeying around with (my) credit limits" has meant instant approvals with high CLs instead of difficult Recon calls and small CLs on new cards. So who am I going to believe, RNE or my lying eyes?
