DBS redemptions now fax form

This may be annoying - DBS (incl DBS Black) AM redemption is now done by faxed form

http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...ow.php?id=5634
http://hk.dbs.com/en/consumer/credit..._Fm.pdf#page=3

May take longer than internet request (formerly 7 days http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...l#post14001509)

Also they may be more stringent about which account you credit - you used to be able to credit someone else's AM number who doesn't have DBS account: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...-accounts.html

i'm probably 99% billingual like you and a few others here, but i find DBS really annoying in what language they use. i get a few emails from them that's has english subject line and everything else in chinese. What's the point.
and I'd like to apologize to Dasanii because of the chinese interface of the referal email! that is royally a disgrace.

Even the PRC-owned and run Bankcomm HK branch is more English-literate than DBS

It's quite surprising given it is a regional bank with a Singaporean parent. You'd think they'd use English as their working written language, not Chinese. But then again DBS HK is really the former Kwong On and OTB local banks.

Another email from them, Chinese again even if you click "If you cannot read this e-mail properly, please click here." http://www.esdlife.com/soloemail/dbs...sta/index.html

DBS Black Bazaar - Thieves' Bazaar

Gone home to find a DBS mailer in my mailbox. Advertised an auction environment for certain redemption items including 30,000 Asia Miles with reference redemption prize of 1,440 DB$ (30,000 / 1,000 x 48) starting at DB$150.

http://dbs3.esdlife.com/blackbazaar/en/

The T&C said I must "like" them of Facebook first http://www.facebook.com/TheDBSBlackCardHongKong, okay, kinky but duly complied with. Completed all registration procedures.

I click the Asia Miles auction item - 15,000 not 30,000, but the current price is already "DB$875". I'm used to fake bidders whilst buyng and selling houses in Aus, but an auction price above the standard $48/1,000 mile price? Who are they kidding? Even the China Rail Ministry can't get so fake!

Who would want to trust this bank for wealth management?

With other DBS cards, you need DB$900, true.

http://hk.dbs.com/en/consumer/credit...emption_Fm.pdf

But note this auction is DBS Black only, and all DB$ used must be from DBS Black accounts. You can't use the auction to spend your non-Black DBS credit card DB$.

Although they may have the same name, DBS Black DB$ aren't the ssame as DBS non-Black DB$.

Sounds like as rotten a deal as Minibonds/Constellation Notes. It's a POS, but DBS told you so so DBS is off the hook.

it IS POS, but given that DB$720 is only for the black card (lowest cost), the other cards would have a higher cost? (or simply the earn rate for other cards are lower instead?)

The other cards don't get to participate in the Black Bazaar at all!

http://dbs3.esdlife.com/blackbazaar/en/

Promotion details and enrolment procedures
1. The DBS Black Card - Black Bazaar (the "Promotion") is only applicable to the principal cardholders ("Cardholders") of The DBS Black Card ("Applicable Credit Card") issued by DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_4 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8K2 Safari/6533.18.5)

There's a clause saying if u are under quota for the DBS$ requires they will charge you HKD 2 per DBS$, assuming someone just joined and desprately need the miles then 1740 HKD for 15K miles isnt bad at all

The discounted cash purchase case is also the only case where the Black Bazaar deal may work http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...ow.php?id=5650

But at $0.116 per mile they aren't really cheap...and a 15K block may be more than what's required as a top-up purchase.

Visa Platinum: http://www.asiamiles.com/am/en/earn/...0007d21c39RCRD (01 Jan 2011 - 30 Apr 2011)

Still have to pay $100 per conversion though http://www.bankcomm.com.hk/mediafile...%20Program.pdf

Hmmm...just noticed Bankcomm Diamond Unionpay conversion is 8 pts/mile to the end of the year. Have updated my best cards list.
My Diamond Bankcomm was approved on 20 June, paid almost $3,000 bills using Bankcomm internet banking on receipt, received 6,000 miles today. Thank you Bankcomm!
