Busy time at the Wing/Cabana?

We are heading to BKK via HKG in F tonight and will be at HKIA at 06:10 on Thursday. Is that a busy time at the lounges? Seems the Pier is over all nicer but the Cabanas at the Wing seem amazing. We'll have 3 hours so definitely want to be able to shower in between flights.

If you are anal about getting the best shower possible, both Pier F and Pier J are superior IMO. I find sometimes an "off" smell in the Cabana showers, and Pier F and J both use Aesop amenities.....the board here still doesn't quite understand why Wing F doesnt.

However..... understanding fair well there is quite a "wow" factor to the Cabanas especially for folks who don't fly it often, morning time *can* be quite busy. That's rush hour for arriving longhaul flights and a lot of folks are transiting. You can't book in advance. There are 5 Cabanas and an 90 minute time limit (not sure if it's enforced or not). The true value add to the Cabana seems to be a) a bath tub, and b) if you're with a spouse you could both basically freshen up at the same time. Not to splash too much cold water here but it's just basically like a suite bathroom at a 5 star hotel, without the proper amenities and a random couch in the middle. Like said above, the nicer amenities are actually out at the Pier.

I don't know about regulars, but I virtually never use the Cabanas. I get "stuck" with them at Wing randomly when I need a shower and the attendants put me in one
When I transit and need to shower my priority is go to what's closest to either my arriving or departing gate. If my gate locations meant I had an even choice between Wing or Pier, I would personally choose Pier F showers and then work in one of the Pier's day rooms, which the Wing doesn't have. Pier J showers get a rap on here for being small but personally I don't care.

No doubt everyone is different. So much has been made of the Cabanas on the blogs that I suppose they're a novelty items folks who don't fly CX a lot must do. In that case just rush to the Wing and get your buzzer.
infinitium likes this.

Yeah, and try taking a shower in a cabana without splashing water everywhere.

Second the above, The Pier has the best facilities. Not that any of them are bad and are actually better than most other lounges on the planet.

As for how busy it will be, 0610 is just before the rush. By 0700 it starts to get very full as there are a huge number of CX flights between 0800 and 0900. After that it quietens down again.

Has anyone had trouble entering a Cabana with their partner? Imagine it would be efficient for a couple in need of catching their connection, though something like that would raise some eyebrows, I imagine.

No problem. So long as you don't mind being overheard!

Pier J showers are small, but still very usable. If they need to do that to fit more showers in, then I have no problems with them doing it. My last trip, I didnt even visit Pier or Wing J lounges, instead opting to use the Qantas J lounge.

The penultimate first world problem: Should I use the Qantas J, Pier J, or Wing J lounges before my flight leaves?

I guess choosing between Pier F and Wing F is the ultimate first world problem

I could hear my neighbour (a family of three) clearly once in the old cabanas. I think the new ones are more sound-proof.

No problem at all.

I was in there twice on my recent trip on CX connecting in HKG of course.

The staff member who escorts you to the cabana tells you that you have 90 minutes and IIRC, there is also a sign on the long table.

Thankfully, despite both arrivals at 05:00, I chose to relax, do work, have breakfast and then when the "crowds" left, I had the cabana to myself.

So, if you plan on using it with your spouse/partner etc, noise may be less of an issue than the time limit. LOL

If you plan on using the Cabanas at the Wing, bring your own bath salts. It makes the experience even better.

I love the Cabanas but the bathtub is too big for me - I'm 5'7" (170cm) but my legs need to be like 5 inches longer to touch the other side of the bathtub when I'm reclining ...

Several times I was relaxing in the tub, my back on one side of the tub... and then somehow my (not very small) butt just managed to slide forwards ... so my whole body and my head got submerged in the water ... magazine / phone fell in the water ...

Bathtub at the lounge is too big for my short legs. First world problem, definitely.

Cabanas can be taken out by 6am, I've been catching CX138 normally arrive HKG around 5am a lot, there are few times that I only arrived at Cabanas at 5:35 and there were 3 people ahead of me already.

I used to use the little sofa + chair for a nap a lot and normally set my alarm to 7am. I'm not sure how other people uses the cabanas but I would think no one would go there for just a quick shower, so average use of one hour maybe.

I stumbled upon this thread while searching for info regarding the cabanas in The Wing F lounge.
Generally speaking, which time of the day sees higher demand for the cabanas? (morning vs evening)
I need to book a flight from JFK to HKG and then onwards to BKK.
Currently I have the option of taking CX845 that arrives in HKG at 5:15 am and CX831 that arrives in HKG at 6:50 pm.
Whichever flight I end up booking, I'm planning on having a connection time in HKG for about 3 hours.
My main priority is to use the cabana in The Wing for a bath during my transit in HKG, so I'd like to arrive in HKG at a time that will give me a better chance of not having to wait for a cabana, or at least having the shortest wait time.
Would you recommend I arrive in HKG early in the morning or in the evening for a better shot at using a cabana?

I'm 6' 0" and the tub was way too long for me too. When I leaned back I thought that I might drown! Such problems.............
