For IDD you call +852 (the number) (unless there are discounted IDD rates, i.e. v019.)
I am in the US. I tried the hong kong number but it says "call can not be placed'. Maybe it is not a free call though it says toll free number?

Will the call center agent give us advance seats for flights that is 7 months away? We are 3 including a young toddler all 3 of us booked coach seats. I wanted to try to get bulkhead seats!

It depends on your phone carrier. Verizon and Comcast do not recognize 011-800-... You may have to call 011-852-... instead and will not be toll-free anymore.

In the past, the earliest you can reserve a seat was 6 months (or 180 days - I am uncertain). I don't know if that is still the same.

The call center is closed here in US after 4 and not open until Monday.
I am unable to place the hong kong toll free number.

Have never flown any CP flights. Hope the coach seats (777-300ER ) are not bad like the United 747 400. I liked the A380.

I have always had to call the HKG number and have never been able to get the toll free number to work while in the US. I'm actually on hold with MPC now and have been on hold for around 50 mins and counting...... feels like the old days before i had mpc status

You can try a land line. My current Comcast landline does not work. My company line does not work because it is on the company's own switch. However, my old landline (I believe with AT&T) used to work.

In situations like these, calling the HK number seems to be the best way.

From Japan,
001-010-800-2747-xxxx
works well.
001 is the carrier designator for KDDI.
IMHO, only KDDI recognizes CX international toll free.
If your landline(hotel) contracts/uses a default international carrier other than KDDI, usual 010-800-2747-xxxx doesn't work (010 is international call designator).
You have to add the carrier designator 001.
If your landline(hotel) uses a fixed carrier discount service, specifying 001 designator doesn't work. An annoucement something like 'please use a registered carrier' is provided.
In that case, you have to call 122-001-010-800-2747-xxxx.
The number 122 is the cancelling designator for fixed carrier service.
If your hotel phone system uses automatic call routing for international call, it may override these designator.
In that case, you cann't use the toll free number.

From mobilephone, for example, NTT docomo has its own international line, its designator is 009130.
From NTT docomo mobile phone, 010-800-2747-xxxx (or +800-2747-xxxx) means 009130-010-800-2747-xxxx. So, CX toll free doesn't work. Therefore, I uses 001-010-800-2747-xxxx from my NTTdocomo mobile phone.
Unfortunately, NTTdocomo and KDDI are different companies, I have to register my credit card number to KDDI for this to cover international call fee, even though only calling 010-800 international toll free number. Actually, calling to CX hasn't been charged at all. Enabling call through KDDI from NTT docomo mobile phone requires credit card registration.

Wasabi Tofu: thanks. But having to place this and return a couple of other calls made me finally bite the bullet and pay for Skypeout - said to work with Hong Kong 27475500/24743838

Why not use Google Voice/Hangouts and call the U.S. number? It's free to call U.S. numbers.

They should implement a system similar to what Amazon & Apple offer here in the US, where there is an option to receive a call once a CS rep is available.
