CX's hidden I-fare sale
Quite inadvertently -- and unexpectedly -- I bumped into this page: http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/it_...MER-JCLS-MAY13, which shows MIL-HKG business class "I" fares of €2,332 (€2,668.89 all in, I priced it).

I could not find these fares on any public source, starting with matrix.itasoftware.com (which I was using for planning). I almost bought a ticket with BA due to the otherwise enormous price difference: on all sites, CX prices out at €4,703 vs BA at €2,362!!! Not even a travel agent could find it on the GDS.

Is this type of hidden unpublished sale typical for CX? It's not a "flash" sale, as the rules say it's valid 14Jan2013 - 31May2013!!

I can't really fathom the business angle of making them hidden -- CX is good, but they're probably losing a lot of sales when EK, BA, LX, LH, VS, KL, AF, AZ, QR and AY are all 50% cheaper (albeit they're 1-stop as opposed to nonstop).

Heh heh. My friend bought a mistaken internet fare from Singapore Airlines that charged 50-60% less for Economy than they should. They quickly fixed the mistake and told my friend his ticket is voided and he needs to buy a new one with the right price. My friend threaten to sue them in Hong Kong courts, and finally Singapore Airlines said they will honor the mistaken fare. Which surprises me, I would of thought Singapore Airlines would of played hard ball with him.

afaik CX does not publish their cheapest ticket at itasoftware, unless other carriers. BTW would you tell me where do you find all those fares from, among others, LH and AF? last i checked they were out of this world ex-italy.

I don't know about the fares in the link you posted (it linked to a PEY page for me) but from CX Italy's homepage there are business fares about EUR 2,338 incl tax MXP-HKG. Your quoted fare doesn't seem to have anything special / hidden about them ?

Actually the 2.5K EUR fare is quite a standard fare in Europe, depending on dates/routing etc... BA offers these Ex EU fare as well. But for MXP-HKG return at this price, is pretty good.

Do note that CX does not publish its fares on ITA and other sources (similar to many Asian Airlines). that is why only local agents etc.. actually know about it.

Back to the question someone mentioned upgrade at airport, so I really doubt they will offer this fare when calculate the difference of the upgrade.

Nothing too special its a standard I class fare. Any good travel agent will bag that one for you.

A quick search on http://matrix.itasoftware.com will bring up many dates, including pretty much any day in July, for AF at €2,394. In July LH is available a few days at €2,745, most of them at €2,950. CX cannot be had for less than €4,703.

Yep because CX does not publish all fares like the other airlines

Mine's good, and he cannot see the fare. Below are all of his fares, truncated to the lowest CX's fare, and as you can see there are 174 cheaper fares ahead of CX's.

I've just tried (for sport) what I believe is the largest leisure travel agent (http://www.expedia.com) and the largest corporate one (https://travel.americanexpress.com), pricing travel from 02 July to 11 July, and neither are showing the competitive CX fare of the original post (CX prices at USD 6162 all in).

I've just tried (for sport) what I believe is the largest leisure travel agent (http://www.expedia.com) and the largest corporate one (https://travel.americanexpress.com), pricing travel from 02 July to 11 July, and neither are showing the competitive CX fare of the original post (CX prices at USD 6162 all in).
