Pleasantly surprised by being awarded 5,000 pts even though I'm an existing AAVS user from BEA! I thought 5,000 pts was only applicable to new AAVS applicants (i.e. no previous AAVS at all).

Yes I was debited $20 admin fee. But 5,000 pts = 625AM = $62.5 @ $0.1/mile > $20

I am only prepaying HK$3k to CLP, HK$2k to Town Gas, and another HK$3k to rates. That will be enough to last for 1 year. HK$8k = 2k miles. Not too shabby.

Thanks for the tips percysmith (as always), I will register another AAVS just to enjoy the 5k pts and 500 miles worth of AAVS (around HK$2k worth of AAVS) before end of the year

SCB's "trying" for the $1,800 annual fee again...

http://www.discuss.com.hk/viewthread.php?tid=16016242
http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...ow.php?id=6091

Two years ago:

http://www.discuss.com.hk/viewthread...2#pid256728591

sometimes you have to haggle with them like California Fitness/Cable TV/market grocer.

Here's a conversation I had last year with Manhattan (one month before my renewal is due):

Me: Will fee waiver be extended to me and my subsidiary cardholder please?
CS: Have renewals dept call you back in a day or two

(After three days) Renewal officer: We can only offer you half fee waiver ($300 of $600) plus waiver on the subsidiary card, plus give you an Osim (piece of rubbish, I forgot what) worth $600.
Me: Cut please. My welcome offer 12-month lockup is up. Shall I go to a (Standard Chartered) branch or shall I fill in a form?
Renewal: Sir, we really do not do full waivers this year.
Me: My friends have obtained them last month (yes, my good friends at hongkongcard.com). I will consider holding onto the card if the same is extended to me.
Renewal: Okay okay. I'll ask my manager if we can extend the same to you. (Less than one minute later) we'll give you full fee waiver. But I must emphasise it's for *this year only*.

When has a annual fee waiver been given for more than 12 months (except initial fee waiver)? I cut my card one month later anyway.

This month - SCB's requiring spending from $2,000 to $10,000 to renew Plat Visas/MCs

I don't give a sxit about the SCB Visa/MC - I compared it to a foreskin once http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...hk-47.html#698 and I still belived it's true. It's the SCB AE with its $2.5/mile I am anxious to keep.

I called up SCB:

- if annual fee is collected on the Platinum Visa/MC, cannot spend on the SCB AE in lieu (I've no problems spending on the SCB AE with its $2.5/mile earn rate, but loathe having to spend on the SCB Visa/MC with its anemic $15/mile earn rate)

- you can cut after the end of the two months without annual fee - "can you confirm you are offering a two month waiver?" "correct".

If I have to spend $10K on it, I'm sacrificing about 1,000 miles on it ($10,000/6 (DBS Black) - $10,000/15 (SCB Visa/MC)).
I'll easily recover this 1,000 miles by spending 15,000 overseas on SCB AE instead of Fubon Plat ($15,000/2.5 (SCB AE) - $15,000/3 (Fubon Plat)).
If required, I'll "meekly" spend the $10,000.

5,000 pts: Very quick. One week or so.

But a colleague of mine reported a problem registering his wife's AAVS on it. He hasn't had a chance to phone Bankcomm and find out what's wrong.

The bonus pts from the Welcome Offer of BankComm Diamond CUP has also posted in my account, a sweet 54k bonus pts (from spending HK$18k or 3x bonus pts). The total pts (together with the basic 1x and additional 1x bonus pts for spending over HK$300) = 90k pts, equivalent to 11.25k. I had received an additional 1k miles for using form downloaded from the AM website. So, 12.25k miles for spending HK$18k in total ($1.47/mile).

I am also expecting 2x5k=10k bonus pts for the Octopus AAVS service activation+ 2x$8k = 16k bonus pts for online bill payments before end of this month. And at least an additional 2x$2k = 4k bonus pts for Octopus AAVS till Dec 2011. That will be a total of 30k bonus pts or 3.75k.

All in all, I will transfer at least 15k before the HK$8 to 1 mile promo ends on Dec 31.

Oh...and thanks for the tips percysmith, I will apply for the WLB CUP Card next week, just to enjoy the 5k bonus miles for spending a mere HK$2.8k.

For the Bankcomm promotion, is it 5000 points per Octopus AAVS registered? So if I sign both my Octopus card and my wife's, I will receive 10,000 points?

Also, if I do a withdrawal of $500 per time, that will also allow me for double points as it's over $300HKD, correct?

Thanks!
