CX Lounge access question for long layover at HKG

Hi, I'm traveling on CX from CMB-HKG and have a 14 hour layover before continuing on to SYD. I'm OneWorld sapphire and I love the new Piers lounge at HKG. Since I arrive at 8am and have a full day, I'd like to go to the Piers lounge to rest in the day suites for an hour or so first before taking the train into Hong Kong and sightseeing all day. My question is can I go to the Piers lounge (directly upon arrival from CMB) and then leave the airport? I'm not sure if there's a way to exit the terminal once you've entered it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

it isn't usual practice to have pax transiting then leaving the airport, there is a process but it is not simple and involves having to get an escort back through immigration.

not worth the bother in my opinion for a 1 hour stay in the lounge, head out and enjoy HK then look forward to the Pier after.

I'm afraid you're likely out of luck this trip. As a OneWorld Sapphire, you are unfortunately not eligible to enter the Pier F lounge. Meanwhile, the Pier J lounge closed for renovation on July 1 and will not re-open until 2016.

You can use The Bridge, The Cabin, The Wing J, G16 or the Qantas lounge, but none of them IIRC have the resting rooms you refer to.

Yes, there is a way to exit, but it's not exactly in the spirit of things IMO. Count me as someone who is not thrilled by folks who seek to utilize the airside lounge prior to going landside, and then back to airside. It is, IMHO, an absuse of the spirit of things. My reason is selfishly straightforward...as a frequent HKG airport user and CX/KA flier, I have encountered a few occasions where I had to leave airside to go landside on an account of a legitimate emergency (situation #1) and urgent issue (situation #2). I'd hate for leisurely lounge crashers to force the airport and/or CX implement a policy that made this flow more difficult.

Regardless, there are a number of threads here in the CX FT forum which detail how to go landside after being in an airside lounge.

Are you Sapphire or Emerald? Your post and profile conflict. if you are sapphire you won't be able to get into a cabana which is what I believe you are referring to a suite unless you're flying F. As yohy mentioned it is possible to head into the departure lounge but if you're only staying for an hour why not head into the arrivals lounge and quickly shower and eat before heading into the city? It's so much easier as you won't have to beg someone to escort you back down

Thanks for the responses! I'm sorry, I guess I'm OneWorld Emerald (I'm AA Exec Plat). I was in the new Piers lounge on the way to CMB the other day and it was amazing.

I had no idea there was an arrivals lounge too. I'll check that out. Do you know if there are places to rest there for a bit (similar to the day suites in Piers or the cabanas?)?

The Arrival is tiny, and has no resting facilities. It's an okay place to grab a shower on your way into town though.

hi, sorry to hijack this thread, but I have a similar question as well, and I think I know the answer, just need confirmation.

I'm connecting from CX714 in J (SINHKG) to CX846 in F (HKGJFK) with about a 12 hr layover. I intend to meet a friend for lunch in central. However, as 714 arrives into HKG quite early at about 5 am, I intend to rest at one of the airside lounges before heading down at a more reasonable time (say 10 am).

I understand that people generally don't go from Airside to Arrivals. However, I also understand that it is possible with help from the lounge attendants. I just need confirmation that I can still leave for the city at 10am, after spending several hours at the F lounge.

Thanks guys!

P.S. I've used to search function. Just need confirmation on this.

Well,it is possible, but the consensus here is that it is generally not worth the hassle to do all that. I would just use The Arrival. It' not as exciting as the F lounges, but does the job.

As Rami suggested, it's not worth the hassle.

Your friend will potentially be waiting a longgggg time for you. Just use the Arrivals lounge and or move yourself to CX 650 / 710 instead.

Why do you say that? And what kind of hassle are we speaking of? Besides backtracking through security to the arrivals side

I want to see some of the people who do that in HKG to try it on in BKK,or in AMM,or better at CAI and explain to the airport staff that they just wanted to go to the lounge,I doubt they would ever be doing that again anywhere.

It is selfish, doing that takes up staff resources, these staff could be helping other pax who did need help with more important stuff.
