CX889 (JFK-HKG) F PAX deplane @ YVR?

I took cx889 two years ago and I did not have to leave the plane. But my spouse who took HKG-JFK(CX888) F had to leave the plane @ YVR. Does anyone have more recent F experience @ YVR regarding CX889?

Thanks.

It's always been that way. You have to get off 888 and spend ages in the holding pen, but you can stay on 889.

Last time I was in the holding pen (March 2014), I actually saw a rat scamper through the holding area gate. Airport waiting entertainment.

Thank the US authorities for this. The Canadians have nothing to do with CX in holding you in a holding pen.

Don't forget that they now check your bags too if you're continuing to JFK on CX 888. They never did that previously. (Although, they did bag screening at HKG for a while then they stopped then the screening started in YVR)

Small correction: you have to stay on 889 at YVR.

You meant CX889 Y and J pax are sent to the pen but F pax have to stay? I was told I could stay in my seat but I guess they were just being polite? I was gonna go with the other Y and J passengers.

Just to be clear:

*For CX 889 passengers continuing to HKG from JFK: All passengers regardless of class must remain onboard. Takes about an hour or so to clean the aircraft, re-cater, refuel and board passengers from YVR that are continuing to HKG. And yes, you remain onboard while of all the mentioned activities above happen.

*For CX 888 passengers continuing to JFK from HKG: All passengers regardless of class will proceed to a "sterile" room. You will be given a transit card and you're bags will be checked by Canadian authorities to comply with the US TSA requirements. (I know, I hate it too. ). There is free Wi-Fi in that sterile room, restrooms and bottled water always on offer by the counter so help yourself. Once again, it will take about an hour or so before you board. When boarding, just surrender your transit card and off you go.

...and for the love of heaven, board when they ask you to board. I can never understand how passengers who have already successfully gotten themselves across the Pacific can't manage to get themselves back onto the plane in a timely fashion when it's time to depart for JFK.
