Just a general comment. HSBC has made their rewards earning so complicated. I can't find anything on their website that explains the conversion rates simply. It actually is losing them business as I will not bring any of my accounts to them (partly) because of this complication.

It's the reason I stopped banking with them - day to day operations with them was too complicated. I guess it just continues into their reward program.

Trashn: your statement is correct. I will add a Visa Signature will still enjoy $2.78/mile (9X), and will be my main HSBC card

Sxc: you aren't the only one saying that. I told another member here that HSBC is now a "gamer's card", with lots of you snooze you lose rules.

percysmith - what about HSBC Premier Mastercard? Does that have $2.78/mile too?

If not, I'll go and apply for a Visa Signature too (although the cap applies for all cards combined).

This.

I have been under the impression that my HSBC mastercard was getting me 11x RC on Fridays for my Dining spend, but spot checking a few statements from 2014 and 2015 I have only been getting 6x on Dining, even on Fridays.

Where is the other 5x?

Rebated 2 months after end of each quarter - eg Q3 2015 was rebated 20/11 http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...?id=11847&p=32

And HSBC doesn't tell you it's done that - you just see a bump in your rewardcash balance - you have to do monthly movement reconciliation exercises (stuff I used to teach in accounting 102 and then make interns do at clients over the summer)

Wow indeed, you are right. It shows up as an "RC Adjustment" and posts at random intervals several months later.

Ok nevermind that, I will be clearing out my RC balance in Dec at the 1RC:15AM rate. And apply for a Signature Visa to get 9x RC on Dining going forward. All other spend will go elsewhere...
