cathay 777-300er - Will Empty Seats fill up fast?

Hi,

I am flying out on a cathay pacific 777-300er during Thanksgiving morning from JFK to Hong Kong. I checked the plane's seating chart today and there seems to be a whole bunch of empty seats that opened up that was previously unavailable.

I am currently on seats 40A, 40B with easy access to get up. I am tempted to reassign my seats to one of those empty rows with no one in front or behind me. Image below.

My question is, what are the chances that all these empty rows will fill up between the next 3 days? Will they have flash sales to get people to fill up the seats? My main priority is easy access to get up and stretch. I don't want to switch to an empty row only to have someone sit next to me the day of departure.

Your feedback is appreciated.

Thank you.

they will fill up - they released these "bunch of seats" cuz the allocatable seats are all gone, meaning plane is very full.

the state of the seat map is less important than how much fares are selling for (many people dont bother to select seats till online check in).

do a dummy search for your dates, if only expensive fares like Economy Standard or PE are available the flight is pretty much full

Also, FYI to the OP, 40A and 40B on the 77H are "regular" Y seats that do not offer "easy access" to get up like the bulkheads or exit rows do. The seat map in the OLCI/MMB system is misleading: 39A and 39C are in front of 40A and 40B, and there is no seat in front of 40C.

Oh yes I know there are seats in front of me. But it's still easier to get up and walk diagonal to get out.

Thanks for the replies. I am temped to get seat 71H,K also. Just not sure if I want to sit by the toilets.

not entirely true. percysmith and I have experienced where there's only Y9B9H0 and 2 days before flight it goes Y9....V9 just before HKG travelling peak. i swear there are so many tour groups that cancelled itself.

it's over-booking... meaning they have reasonably light loading up front so fill up the back with cheapo tickets and upgrade the lucky guys... did you check the J loadings? I assume they were showing J9D9C7I5 type of loadings

on flip side if it showed J1D0C0I0 type of loading, front is pretty packed so you would see Y9B9 stay the way it is.

that is a near guranteed op-up type of loading. Assuming you are DM, maybe less so as Gold

I agree op upgrades will likely happen.

My case was here http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...l-pricing.html

Loading was J2 Y0 at T-7 (my ticketing deadline)

Then opened up to J7 C7 D6 I6 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 G9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 at T-2.

Based on my experiences of watching these seats open and close, expertflyer availability prediction, etc. I would say your flight is full or very close to full, and if you are DM/GO then expect an op-up.

I just flew on a flight. Looked barren on the seating chart, but availablity was zip.

Turns out most of the seats were occupied by a tour group.
