Trip from Shanghai to Brazil ??

What is a reasonably efficient way to travel from Shanghai to Brazil?
I prefer to fly CX bu I know CX doesnt get me all the way there.

Thanks

Edit: i should specify that I need to go to Sao Paulo for work.

You can fly cx to DOH and then QR to Brazil.
Also can fly CX to LAX or JFK and then AA to Brazil.

Probably not the most efficient way with CX, but you can start off with:
PVG-HKG-JNB....then SA to GRU
PVG-HKG-DOH/AUH/DXB onwards with EK, JJ, etc
PVG-HKG-LHR...then QR to GRU
PVG-HKG-LAX/SFO....then onwards with AA/UA

In the past I have flown:

HKG - JFK - MIA - GRU (CX, AA)
HKG - LHR - MIA - GRU (CX, BA, AA)
HKG - LHR - GRU (BA)
HKG - LAX - PTY - GRU (CX, Copa, TAM)

You can get there many ways using OW (especially now TAM is a OW partner) - also you could go HKG - LHR and pick up the TAM flight to Brazil minimising connections, but haven't checked frequency.

I know the above aren't necessarily the most direct, but I had layovers in many places for meetings etc to maximise my time in places I didnt spend a lot of time in.

Good luck.

BA fly from LHR to both GRU and GIG.
IB fly from MAD to both GRU and GIG.

BA would be more convenient if you fly CX from HKG to LHR.

But you can also fly BA from PVG to LHR and then connect to GRU.

The most direct and you still get Asia Miles is AA182 PVG-LAX, and then AA215 LAX-GRU

If you prefer to fly CX you can go PVG-HKG-LAX with CX, and then AA215 to GRU

Easiest routes

I few GRU-JFK-HKG-TPE in 2012 and it was a simple journey ^

By the way I wouldn't take the other poster's suggestion to go with CX via LAX because it isn't actually possible... without doing a 8hr layover

Only realistic options involving CX are via JFK or LHR (the flight via DOH is QR on both legs). If flying J, I would choose CX/BA (via LHR) and if flying F I would choose CX/AA (via JFK). If flying Y I would choose based on whichever schedule suited me better

If you don't care about flying CX then QR PVG-DOH-GRU is by far the best option!

a) CX/AA because more time on CX and less time 9.5hrs on AA. As opposed to equal time on both with 12hrs on BA F.

b) I rate BA F just a little better than AA F (but there isn't that much in it) but would rather spend more time in CX F and less time on either AA/BA

Best is to do CX HKG-JFK and AA JFK-GRU

On the JFK-GRU AA has same J seat as CX, so it is a nice journey.

Good point.. Forgot that AA has the 77W on this route. In that case I would agree and I would choose this route in both J or F

US immigration

Unless you're a US citizen or an APEC cardholder, I would take an option which does not involve flying via the US, especially if your transit point is LAX. You'll have to go through US immigration, which is an absolute pain.

Accordingly, I would suggest going via LHR, or (assuming it's not during the first few months of the new airport in DOH) via DOH.

True. I will try the other route through Doha or Europe in future.
Turns out I have to go to the west coast for work so LAX is the better option for now...
