Smile Cathay Pacific Transfers on separate PNR?

Hi everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster, so forgive me if this has already been asked. I tried to do a search as best I could!

I am booked onto CX 170 from PER to HKG (with a friend, on same itin) and am about to book CX 368 onwards to Shanghai.

As it worked out cheaper to book as two separate legs and Cathay state that you must allow 50 mins to transfer as a min, my question is, if I book this flight am I able to call Cathay and ask them to link the two trips onto one booking so we can go straight to the transfer desk in HK and not have to go landside?

Also, do you think we would be able to check our bags all the way to Shanghai Pudong from Perth if this is the case?

Appreciate any feedback! Cheers.

Welcome to the forum ^

Linking does not offer protection if you don't make the connection.
If your first flight is late CX has no obligation to get you to Shanghai on later flight. You are taking the risk
If made as ONE reservation/PNR and your first flight is late CX has an obligation to get you to Shanghai on later flight. CX are taking the risk.

50 minutes is not long if you have to go through immigration/collect bags then check in & go through immigration again. Worth asking CX Perth by phone to ask if they will tag bags for both flights in Perth.

Personally if CX would not tag bags I would be booking as 1 PNR. 1hr 50min would be different. Is there a later Shanghai flight you can book ?

We'll move this over to the Cathay forum for more discussion there - I was going to say welcome to FT, but you've been here for some time

Cathay Pacific Transfers on separate PNR?

They'll through-check your bag so no need to clear immigration and customs at HKG to recheck. They may be able to print your onward BP in PER, or you can self-print at online checkin.

I don't have personal experience, but I get the impression CX is quite good at rebooking missed connections even on separate tickets. Linking the PNRs might help ground staff see where you're coming from.

Although CX has no obiligation to protect you, it is very likely that they will arrange a later flight for you should you missed your original flight.
In order to link your PNRs and check your luggage through, you will have to have leave at least 50minutes between the flights. (If you do not have any checked luggage, it is possible that you can do a <50 minutes transit using the e-boarding pass)

CX does sell that pair so most likely you should be ok.

On dummy booking it says CX170 arrives 0750 and CX368 departs 0850. So unless there is big delay from PER, I think you should be ok and I think you can check in your back to PVG and get your PVG BP in PER.

From experience. YVR - HKG. and HKG - PEK. on separate PNR they did tag my bags thru to PEK. and I had a delay out of YVR and missed my PEK but as I arrived to HKG they had an agent waiting for me by the gate with a new BP and escorted me to the new gate.
so you should be ok even if you miss your first flight as CX is pretty good as putting you onto the next flight out to PVG.
