CX807 4/5/12 flight diverted 2x.

What happen to this flight? Originally heading to HKG from ORD via the traditional Alaska route, but diverted to Anchorage, Alaska then headed to Tokoyo, Japan then towards HKG. Just curious since I have a flight today same CX807 ORD to HKG route via Alaska(not Polar)

Wow this is so strange. It is being diverted twice, I can confirm CX website also has it diverted to ANC and then onwards to Tokyo. Something wrong with the plane meaning it can't do ETOPS? No idea of any other reason why it would stop twice.

CX807 Diversion

Fascinating diversion.....

I imagine a medical emergency. The aircraft was on the ground in Anchorage for just 47 minutes.

Then from Anchorage to Tokyo Haneda (Narita was closed at this hour due to the curfew). By this point, the crew would need to be changed as they'd be flying over their allowable duty time. A 90 minute stop to pick up new crew at Haneda and finally scheduled to arrive in HKG at 0456 - or 8 hours and 56 minutes behind schedule.

Well, at least that's my theory.....

This is so unusual. I'm sure your CX807 will be uneventful on 6 Apr.

It was a medical emergency. I have a friend on this flight right now, and I was surprised to receive a phone call from him at 03:00 ET this morning. They were on the ground in ANC when he called. From the flight path, they had already made it pretty far north when they diverted:

I imagine the HND stop was necessary for the crew change as well. It's supposed to take off at 01:00 on April 7th local time. This would mean arrival in HKG around 04:30 on April 7th Hong Kong time.

This means 8.5 hours behind schedule, 3 hours total on the ground (1 at ANC, 2 at HND) for tech stops and about 20h30m of total flight time on what should have been a 15h15m non-stop flight. That's really not fun, especially if you're in Y.

Wow. I wonder what the emergency was? That must really suck, stopping twice. It is outside of CX control though. CX is lucky they always have crew overnighting in N. Asia as this can be useful in times like this. If it was a North. American based airline or airline without Asia based crew I imagine they would have to overnight in Tokyo or something while crew rest.

Diversion

Got a message from our daughter at 3am this morning her plane had an emergency landing in Alaska at 2:30am, originally bound for Hong Kong. In hopes the emergency landing was at an actual airport in Alaska. Good gravy. Called Ted Stevens Int'l Airport in Anchorage. They let me know Courtney's flight Cathay Pacific CX807 was diverted from Hong Kong to Anchorage due to a passenger issue. It was not due to a mechanical issue. No information was available on the passenger issue, although they did ask for Courtney's name...when I gave it, they immediately said she was not involved. Shocked, but relieved she resumed her adventure to a new destination...Tokyo. Thinking from there she can take a slow boat to China. Sorry, had to say it.

I just got off the redeye from SIN, and noticed another 77W parked at the gate alighting passengers. I thought it was weird when I saw ANC on the board somewhere.

And adding to the trouble, the arrival area was complete chaos. No transfer desk services were opened at this hour, so CX set up a couple of makeshift tables with a stack of new bp's for connecting pax.
