New "77G" with no F

Don't know if it has been mentioned before, but I've just realised that CX has a new aircraft seating plan called "77G." Starting from 02MAR12 HKG-YYZ and v. v. will see the 77G operating on selected FLTs. It has J and Y only, no F. At least one FLT per day still has F, though.

Wow, this is interesting. I wonder if the 77G could be one of the configurations with premium economy?? I would have thought if CX are going to introduce Y+ then they would not be bothering to fit Aircraft in Y and J only configurations. Maybe YYZ will be one of the first routes with Y+?? I always thought this route would do well with it, although it is a shame to see F go. Perhaps they will keelp F on one flight only.

I couldnt really tell form the maps. Is the Y section bigger, or stayed the same? And has the J bit just increased??

Is it row 30 to 39 is Y+??

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

Who getting real interesting. Well YYZ is known for redemption heaven for US-HK first class so it's unsurprised (and being a route with less true First class demand)

May be I can save some miles by redeeming W instead of J for my parents upcoming YYZ trip?

So row 30-33 have a 2-4-2 config? 39 has a 2-3-2?

What's the deal with row 42 though...only 42 AC and no B?

Row 30 - 33 is Premium Economy.

39 is Bassinet Row

77G service starts from 02MAR12.

Looks like its going to be high density at 347 seats. I'm not sure if a New Y Class will be released as well.

Make that 340 seats in total. (I counted the number of seats in Y like several time to make sure the number is correct)

Thanks for the correction, Jim!

I wonder if you know through some other sources that the first few rows are Premium Economy, or is it just an educated guess? So far the availability shows JCDIYBH... and those rows are part of the Y seat map as well.

Standard layout for Y+ for most carriers is 2-4-2.

Booking class-wise, some airlines will designate specific class like BA's W and T, or NZ's U/E/O. Some just go with regular Y and 1 (or 2) sub-classes under full fare

This will be the first step to curb those freeloaders south of the border from abusing the award system on the YYZ flights. When seat awards are that easy to grab and people are over abusing it, you know the airline is going to do something about it. I can't wait to see the looks on their faces when they no longer have the easy F award path via YYZ. ^^

Indeed! No F class (F & A) inventory:
[KVS Availability Tool]
Code:
HKG Hong Kong Intl HK [VHHH]
YYZ Toronto Pearson Intl ON CA [CYYZ]
SUN 25 Mar 2012

Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C St Availability
--------- ------ ---- -------- ---- -------- --- -- -----------------------------------------------------------
CX 826 HKG 17:05 YYZ 20:20 773 0 J9 C9 D9 I9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L0 V9 S0 N0 Q9 O0
I would imagine the more 77G configs they have, F will eventually disappear off the YYZ route.
This will be similar to the pattern they adopted several years ago when they converted some of the 3-class 343s into a 2-class and deployed it to routes such as, yup you guessed it, YYZ.

How is flying via YYZ abusing the award system?

Guess me, Mrs Dben and the little Dben will be sticking to 828. Notice that it is the YYZ base crew that gets the 77G.
