Hong Kong – Vancouver – New York JFK
01MAY11 – 04JUN11 Day 37
06JUN11 – 25JUN11 Day 237
29JUN11 – 27AUG11 Day x47
30AUG11 – 28OCT11 Day x4

anybody want to take a guess whether this plane will go JFK-YVR-HKG on the way back? or just JFK-HKG

this doesn't appear correct since i understood that the current(old) 777 has NO first.

I think you're confused about CX's fleet. All CX's 777-300ERs have F, and the ONLY type of 777 CX flies to North America (and Europe) is their 777-300ER. They have a number of 777-300s (without the ER designation), as well as 777-200s in their fleet which don't have F - but they are in a regional configuration and are not configured (and don't) fly to North America.

you're absolutely right. i was confused!

But i've figured it out now and just booked my flights, and according to the seat maps on the cathay site, in the new new business seats!

BTW the new herringbone layout is sooooooo much more logical. window seat pax have their feet towards the windows and back to the aisle. center two seats have feet together and backs also towards the aisles. i really don't think you can get more private than that. and the window seat pax can even look out the window without throwing out their backs. seats are wider too. hope we're lucky.

But at the same time, CX830 on Mondays to JFK is also a 77D which departs HKG at 9-ish, which has to mean Cathay is introducing 2 77Ds in May? I don't know if that makes sense at all.
You raise a good point. Unless CX has two 77Ds at the beginning of May, the schedule they currently display in the booking system is impossible. As you say, with only one 77D they can't run CX841 with a 77D on May 1 and expect to run CX830 with a 77D on May 2. I'm booked on a roundtrip that week to JFK and both flights are currently showing the 77D but I'm guessing the chances are quite mixed that I'll actually be on one!

Thanks to OP for statrting this thread. Adjusted my planned flight date to ensure being on new product. Re seat selection on the new config, what's best for couple travels together, (example, 20A & 21A OR 20A & 20D). At least 1 window seat is preferred.

i don't think you can "ensure" anything 100%. I'm just hoping to increase our odds.

that's a personal choice as any herringbone config will be sub-par for two people flying together. for a lone business traveler it's great though. that's the trade off.

i'm very new on FT but i did find a lot of posts on the AC forum regarding which seats are best for couples and the opinion seems to be quite divided. we've decided to take two window seats, one in front of the other. YMMV. maybe these pics can help you decide.

Planning on flying LHR-HKG anytime between the 4th & 8th of March on CX254. Anyone have any clues if the new business class will be operating during this time? How can one check?

CX schedule is showing aircraft type as EQV but my understanding is it is usually 77A as opposed to 34B nowadays.

Marco Polo seem clueless and don't have any info at this stage... I'd love to try the new business class if it is flying and try to book my flight accordingly...

1. Look up http://en.wordpress.com/tag/cathay-pacific/

2. Create a dummy booking and look for absence of seat 15 D/G and row 27 CX888/889: Contradicting info. I'm confused.

I checked your CX254 for 8 Mar. Aircraft type shows up as a 773 (77A?) and 15D/G and row 27 is still there.

Please read here
The first scheduled 77D to fly is April of 2011 to JFK. This is then followed by LAX and LHR... so I'm guessing 77D will be deployed to London sometime in mid/late 2011

Well, this is how the 888, 889 pattern goes:

CX 888 arrives at JFK from HKG via YVR and departs JFK - HKG nonstop as CX 841
CX 840 arrives at JFK from HKG nonstop and becomes CX 889 JFK - YVR - HKG

As for CX 830, 831 and 846, 845, they are all nonstop and use their a/c respectively.
