HKG-AMS First Class Fares

I'm trying to price out a trip HKG-AMS-HKG for July this year. I notice that 'I' class fares are around HK$32920+tax. However, when I try to find First Class tickets I can only find 'F' class fares for HK$79080+tax and can't find any 'A' class fares.

Is it possible to book 'A' class fares on this route? If so, how do I do that and how much should it cost?

Not sure, but F from TPE is TWD259K (about HKD63K).

It's for my parents, so the inconvenience of having to travel to TPE first makes the trip overall more uncomfortable than just flying J all the way.

Plus, HK$63K is still expensive.

There must be a way to book an A class fare other than having an AONEx!

Consider buying a (full fare) F ticket and redeem a companion award?

Its way more easy to call CX sales and they will tell you what dates have A class, some flights only have 1 A class and 1 upgrade seat available per flight as they sell the seats no problem

In another thread I posted some A fares I found that were AA marketed codeshares on CX metal. That was a different route but maybe you can find something similar through Orbitz or Expedia etc. Let us know.

That's an idea. How does this work? Must they travel together both ways? Or can they travel together on outbound and separately on return?

Also, I have an Amex Platinum issued in HK. Is it possible to buy a full F fare and get one free from Amex Platinum? Or is that Centurion only?

Companion awards must travel together on all segments.

Not necessarily. If one has purchased a TPE-HKG-AMS-HKG-TPE ticket he/she could redeem a companion award only on the HKG-AMS-HKG sectors.

On the CX website it seems that to Europe (except UK) they only sell "First Flex" F fares and "First Standard" A fares don't exist.

See here: http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_...ry?market=HKEU

Compare this to the UK one: http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_...ry?market=HKUK

That's too bad. I wonder why CX doesn't do any A fares ex-HKG to Europe. Particularly when ex-AMS, A fares are available to HKG.

Personally I have never seen ex-HKG A fares to Europe/US except during the SARS period. There are simply too few FC seats to justify discounted F fares. Further, J (as in full J) is already around HK$60,000 so A can't be less than that!

Re companion tickets, not only will they have to travel together, the miles which are used to paid for the companion ticket must belong to the purchaser of the revenue ticket. It's a PITA.

Ah, I did not know about that. I was intending to use my miles for this. That means that companion ticket is a no-go for me as I'm not one of the travellers.

AA codeshares are only to/from USA, connecting to/from some asian cities.

No european routes available.

I've certainly seen other airlines offer discounted first class for less than full fare business class. Also an AONE3 from the US is about US$1000 less than a r/t J fare ticket on JFK-HKG.
