LAX AA-CX Airside Transfer Possible?

I tried to ask this on the AA forum but didn't get an answer, so will try to ask it here.

Is it possible to transfer from an AA domestic flight to a CX flight (i. e., going from T4 to TBIT) without going through the security again? I found that there's a shuttle bus that goes between T4 and the American Eagle Satellite Terminal, and that it's possible for me to go to TBIT from the Satellite. Does anyone know how it actually works? Would it take a lot of time so that it's easier for me to just walk o TBIT and go through the security?

Thanks!

I'm going to be flying the same route in 2 weeks and will be in the same boat as you.

I've done it a few times before though, and generally always walk it from T4 to TBIT, which are right next door. I never thought about doing airside transfer.

I looked it up on the OW website and they say the following:
http://www.oneworld.com/ow/airports-...ap/los-angeles

"The airport shuttle bus runs every 7-10 minutes and takes 45 minutes from Terminal 4 to TBIT and 10 minutes from TBIT to Terminal 4."

So there is a bus, but it doesn't say if it's airside and I wouldn't want to trade a 2 minute walk for a 45 minute bus ride!

AA to CX at LAX

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...l#post13475416

According to Qantas who have a bus only for Qantas pax airside and the CX checkin at Tom Bradley (last year October) there is no such service or there was not then
so much for oneworld

This is the email I sent to the MPO Club in early November
Needless to say I got no reply yet

Last month I flew from Atlanta on American via Forth Worth to LAX
My final destination was HKG
at LAX there was a bus airside for Qantas passengers to keep them airside transit and avoid moving terminals manually and checking in again and the dreaded security queues
Who does CX as a oneworld member not provide such services ?

I believe the primary reason Qantas provides it is for Qantas-Qantas transfers. Some QF flights depart T4 and some from TBIT.

Terminal 4 is right next to TBIT. It's about a 2 minute walk. The bus is landside and would go ALL the way around the long way. Even with baggage it would be easier to walk. No air-side transfer is possible.

The other posters were talking about airside bus. Airside transfers are possible but only for QF passengers.

Thank you. Will walk then...

QF offer the shuttle bus from T4 to TBIT from 4pm.
It runs on the half hour.
Just tell them you're flying QF if you want to take this.
IMOE, the feeder flights from AA have alot of ppl transfering to TBIT for QF.
A bus turns up after 30 mins of waiting, fills up as everyone pushes to the front and staff just tell you to wait for the next bus in 10 minutes (actually the bus doesnt show up for another 30mins and the same thing happens again).
So, I would reccomend leaving T4 and walking across to TBIT.
This takes 10 minutes instead of farting around.

(If you are CX Diamond/OWE, you could stay in T4 and use the Flagship lounge, much better than the crowded crappy TBIT lounge - then catch the bus or walk across).

David.

I have had to do this several times, and as some of the other OP's have said, just walk across. Just remember that TBIT security queues are variable, and can sometimes be awful. This is why I prefer flying into and out of SFO.

It was mentioned in a thread on the AA board recently that an airside tunnel from T4 to TBIT at LAX either may or will be coming in the next few years. TBIT is under construction at the moment, and AA had to move the American Eagle terminal all the way to the other end of the airport.

The American Eagle terminal is now at the far end of the airport, so even if you didn't need a QF boarding pass for the bus, it wouldn't be worth the trouble. It's much quicker to just walk from T4 to TBIT. Also, CX seems to want you to check in at their ticket counter and get one of their boarding passes rather than the one issued by AA.

.....

What else do you expect? 10,000 AM to compensate for the undue hardship everytime you have to transit through LAX, plus prepare a personal car to escort you from T4 to TBIT, until CX can work out an air-side shuttle just like QF? Baggages are normally checked through to your destination at your origin if you fly with CX's partners, so it is not like you have to drag 140 pounds from Terminal 8 to TBIT.

not true! there is an airside bus as well between AA4 and TBIT for QF (I'm told that they will let CX passengers on, but better to check and confirm with those who've made this transfer). The bus leaves every 30 min and signs are well posted.

I have seen report from another thread on FT (probably AA forum) that CX pax are not allowed on the air-side bus.
