Award booking - no free breakfast

Currently staying in the Radisson in Sydney as part of a reward booking for four nights. Reception are saying no free breakfast as part of the booking.

Is free breakfast for Gold members discretionary on award bookings (always have a free breakfast when paying)

Thanks in advance

Well, Golds are not entitled free breakfast to start with. It's really up to the hotels discretion and I suspect points booking might not have helped your case.

This is the first time I have lucked out, wondering if it's worth pursuing

Got room upgrade and gift, just no free breakfast

Well, it doesn't hurt to ask but do know that the hotel is under no obligation to provide you free breakfast. You got the Gold benefits that you're entitled to, which many don't even get. I'm a Concierge and I've rarely got a "gift" and even with breakfast, there have been times I've had to "remind" them.

Thanks tsmith12 - indeed they pointed out that I need concierge status

as you say, no harm in asking

Concierge only gets one person's free breakfast. Gold don't get any breakfast even when paying. Where have you been?

Definitely never hurts to ask... worse case, they say "no" and you didn't lose anything.

That's my experience as well although what I got varied widely. I have received a big family room and breakfast for all without asking. At other properties I have received room upgrade but no breakfast, or the other way around after some "persuading."

Club Carlson Golds are not entitled to much during the stay but the individual hotels often go above and beyond to provide more benefits if you care to ask. It seems that each hotel has its own guideline for the elite upgrade.

Radisson Blu in Dublin provided breakfast to Gold level. Not sure if this is always done ---- it seemed like a courtesy being extended to us at check in.
