- What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold
- Where did you stay.
Radisson Blu Denarau, Nadi Fiji
- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Stay was on points. Generally happy with service and location. Service requests via phone were slow.
- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard room and received king suite. Seperate living room and kitchen.
- Did you receive elite benefits?
Gold:received upgraded room,didnt need early/late checkin/out. No welcome amenity.
- How are the rooms?
Room vas very clean and linens were good quality. Bed was firm but comfortable. Room had clothes washer and dryer with packet of detergent included. Washer/dryer worked well, except dryer exhausted hot air into the room! Wifi was strong and speed was usually .9mbs down and .5 up. Barely acceptable for wifi calling, but worked. Obvious fingerprints on front door and bedroom closet door.
- What was good and what was bad?
Good: friendly service, restaurants, wifi
Bad: room faced street, not pool or ocean.
- Value for Gold Points?
Yes.

Radisson Blu Airport Hotel Oslo Gardermoen

What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Blu Airport Hotel Oslo Gardermoen, Norway

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard, got business room with airport view

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not required
In-Room Welcome Gift - Yes, fruit platter

How are the rooms?
Dated, very 90's. Park Inn across the road is a lot more modern.
Will probably last a few more years before they refurbish

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Hotel is close to the terminal building, but I like Park Inn better
Bad: Nothing, really.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
It's only my second time at this hotel. Probably will return if the price is right, but the Park Inn close by is a better option it seems.

Radisson Blu Lillehammer Hotel, Norway

What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Blu Lillehammer Hotel, Norway

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
No.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard, got standard room with view of interior backyard.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - No
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not required
In-Room Welcome Gift - No, absolutely nothing, not even the slightest recognition.

How are the rooms?
If you stayed here during the 1994 Winter Olympics, it was probably just the ticket. Now, it's just very, very sad. Bathroom ceiling paint is peeling off, very nice.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Not sure, but it is at least quiet
Bad: Location for distance to city center

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
No value for money in my book, it is better spent on a more modern, more lively hotel in the city center. Won't return to this hotel for sure.

This review is based on a two night stay.

What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Blu Schiphol, Netherlands

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard, did a paid upgrade to junior suite including breakfast and minibar

Did you receive elite benefits?

Upgrade
Asked for a upgrade (since I was planning to further upgrade to junior suite) and was clearly told that upgrade policy for Gold was "Best available room in category" which basicly means a high floor.

Early Check In/Late Check Out
Request late check out (15:00) in advanced, and got it confirmed. Not sure if my Gold status played a part.

In-Room Welcome Gift
NA, as there was a free minibar in my paid upgrade, but I don't think I would have received anything if I hadn't upgraded.

How are the rooms?
The junior suite is big (50m2+) with a nice interior, bathroom had both shower and bathtub and decent amenities.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: The breakfast was great (typical selection of food for a 4 star, but very good prepared (crisp bacon, beans that didn't look like they just came out a box). Eggs made on order if requested.
Bad: The upgrade policy is not very elite friendly.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Yes, if I need to stay a night near Schiphol. Since you have to use the shuttle to Schiphol and then the train to Amsterdam the location is not good for going into the city.

I'm sorry for breaking the pattern here a bit, but I have a few stays I haven't posted here.

As can be seen from before, I'm a Concierge (one stay from requalifying, yay!) and have been staying at Radisson Blu Plaza in Helsinki, Radisson Blu Olümpia in Tallinn, Radisson Blu Scandinavia in Copenhagen and Radisson Blu Waterfront in Stockholm on both corporate rates and cash+points. Always Business Class, always in-room gift (very varied, from a single water bottle in Tallinn to full exotic fruit basket + chocolates in Stockholm), and except for Copenhagen Business Class perks (i.e. movies) included. In Copenhagen they for some reason tried to charge one breakfast out of two. Otherwise Concierge breakfast has been well respected.

Best stay absolutely in Stockholm where they were very service-minded and recognized my status whenever possible (reception, breakfast, dinner).

Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Bue, St Helier, Jersey

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes - very

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard, on a 2 nights for price of one basis. So Ł46 a night. Enquired about upgrade and very charming desk clerk immediately said that they had two suites with harbour view free, so I would be upgraded to one of them.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Yes - 'til 4pm.
In-Room Welcome Gift - No

How are the rooms?
Immaculate, huge suite with bedroom and sitting room, large bathroom and an additional "guest" lavatory. All very swish with two TVs, etc etc.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Hotel is well situated, very comfortable, and very good room.
Very good - England 38, New Zealand 21.
Bad: Cant think of anything.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Yes, like a shot.

Side note: I have had consistent, very good experience with Radisson Blu - comfortable hotels, good record on upgrades. But variable experience with Park Plaza - some very good, some poor. Interesting to see how two chains in the same group can be so different.

Park Inn, Cape Town, ZA

- What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

- Where did you stay?
Park Inn, Cape Town, ZA

- Were you happy with the hotel/stay? Yes.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Business-friendly. No upgrade available as hotel was full. (Which is why I booked business-friendly.)
- Did you receive elite benefits?
I got a welcome letter and a bottle of water daily.
I got a late check out, though they tried to bill me for it before I pointed out my Gold status.
Note: Room rate included breakfast buffet and WiFi.

- How are the rooms?
New, modern, clean, appealing. My room was spacious, with a nice sofa and table for relaxing. The basic room I saw into looked small.

- What was good and what was bad?
Friendly, attentive staff.
Reliable WiFi.
Convenient location to Convention Center.
Rooftop bar with nice view of Table Mt.
Decent food at acceptable prices. Breakfast buffet had many hot and cold offerings include made-to-order eggs.
Mercedes car service.
Discount passes to Virgin Active Health Club pool. This was instead of the tiny but adequate gym and the water feature they call a "splash pool". Maybe some children use it in the summer but otherwise it's a waste of water.

- Value for money or Gold Points?
I was very pleased with the stay for what I paid; it was half the price of the convention center Westin, where the food wasn't really that much better and my colleagues said the WiFi was unreliable.

Would you return? Yes

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Suites Bangkok

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
I usually stay at PP Soi 18 but occasionally here and there's always multiple small problems.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard initially received standard. Was told they could put me in a 'better' room on a smoking floor. No thanks.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Usually yes, but today initially no then yes.
Early Check In/Late Check Out - N/A
In-Room Welcome Gift - No

How are the rooms?
The standard room was looking worn but whatever, it was fine, except for the a/c which was making a high pitch whine. Maintenance sprayed lubricant and left which left me in a room with a high pitch whine smelling from lubricant. Long story short was put into a Business studio, basically the studio deluxe with 'better' coffee and more water. I'm now remembering that it's not my favorite room because: 1) when in the sitting area it gets super cold because the thermostat is in the bedroom 2) these rooms (and some of the 1 bedrooms) have awful wifi and today, 3) the audio/video/pc/HDMI/USB plug are inoperable (in this particular room).**

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
While checking in at 2PM they didn't have any rooms ready. The woman helping me, who was very nice, escorted me to the bar/lounge and offered a drinkn on the house. Choices included alcohol.
Bad:
It took a while to get my room and then it took a while to get a new room. Poor wifi in the room. Poor temp control. Auxiliary inputs inop. In sitting area/wet bar/entry room there is only 1 outlet.

From the piddly complaint department: having finished construction a few months ago on the entry way they are now working on the checkin area resulting in a very diminished space.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Was on a C&P booking and the rooms are of decent value without the myriad little hassles.

**I'm not even bothering saying anything to management until I leave tomorrow. It just won't be useful....

Concierge

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Blu, Muscat, Oman

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Overall yes, but not delighted

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Have stayed twice recently:
1st time Booked standard got standard, although after the fuss about charging for breakfast (see below) they offered to upgrade my room but I declined as I didn't think it was worth re-packing all my stuff for one more night.
2nd time Booked standard got upgraded to Business Class. Room was same size but more sumptuously decorated with a Nespresso machine in room, a turn-down service at night with a chocolate left on the bed. Also access to Business Class lounge with free snacks and drinks in the evening.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - No first time, yes second time
Complimentary Breakfast - No, despite the reception desk confirming my Concierge Status on the system on both arrivals. On first stay they tried to charge me at breakfast on the first morning. I went to reception where the receptionist hadn't a clue and said she recognised I was Concierge but my rate excluded breakfast. Luckily a manager passed as I was showing the receptionist my Carlson Club card and the manager said "Oooh that's Concierge, the highest level. You are entitled to free breakfast and room upgrade" I declined the upgrade.
On my second stay (a week later) no attempt to charge at breakfast, which I took as a good sign. But when I came to check out the rate I had booked at had been increased (without notifying me) so that it included breakfast!!! When I explained the concept of "free breakfast" they then agreed to adjust the bill (which took forever).
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not required
In-Room Welcome Gift - No, nothing.

How are the rooms?
Good. reasonable size, comfortable and very clean. Not really much difference from Standard room to Business Class room apart from access to Business class lounge.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Comfortable hotel with choice of dining options. Liked the steakhouse (Al Tajin) and the poolside bar (Lazy Lizard). Handy for working in the Ministries district.
Bad: Draught beer in the Irish themed bar tasted of cleaning fluid all the time Not a great location for leisure stays as it is not near a beach.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Fairly good value for money at weekends but only reasonable mid week as it is obviously a business hotel. Am returning for a couple of nights in about a week to see if they really have got the concept of "free breakfast"

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard award room, asked for sea view and got upgraded to business class room on high floor, which was great because we got a few days breakfast included!

Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not requested

Modern, clean, full sea view.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Full spread of breakfast items, great location with bus stops in front and behind the hotel, some hotel shuttle to the city center
Bad: Slow check out. Either there was a mix up and we should not have been upgraded, or the check-in staff did not process it right, but we were asked to pay with more points for our room. Took 25 minutes to sort it all out after I showed them my printed reservation confirmation, which they kept. Always bring hard copies!
